Live Trout, Live bluegills and secret stinkbait. Generally.
Sometimes cut shad, too. Not to mention chumming, in some cases.
I don't think he "noodled" that big fella. Noodling is catching them with your bare hands. That thing would just drown you in a flash.

6. You don't want to "noodle" a catfish of any size |
|
I don't know about blue catfish but a lot of catfish have spines in their dorsal fins that can give one a nasty puncture wound. Noodlig is definately not a good idea.

There's been a documentary made on this called Okie Noodling. It's supposed to be very good.

I've got to check it out.
I haven't been noodling since I was a teenager. I quit after a friend that was noodling with me stuck his hand in a hole along the bank looking for a channel cat and wound up getting bit by a beaver. It was a real bummer!

9. The spines are also in the pectoral fins |
|
Added bonus: ictalurids are all venomous.
I don't know if this guy knows it yet, but the previous rod-and-reel recordholder landed a blue cat that weighed 112 lbs; this cat, which was also caught on rod and reel, is 121 lbs.

|

I lived in Alaska for 3 years and always released those 5lb rainbows...but the salmon (reds and silvers) were FOOD.

I was referring mainly to the fish's obvious age. An animal like that deserves to live out its natural life.
