My husband and I used a lead testing kit today... |
|
...and one of the mugs I got at a professional conference two years ago tested positive. VERY positive. :( Guess where it was made? :(
A lot of other things that I was almost certain contained lead did not. We know the test was working properly because my husband pulled out a couple of lead miniatures used in gaming (well, used prior to the late 80s until they replaced them with pewter) and used them as the control tests. I have a set of prewar Japanese china that was my grandmother's, and it is lead free. :woohoo: I thought for sure it would at least have some lead in it because of the time period it was made.
I'm going to alert the lender that gave out the mugs and the professional association that had the conference. I don't want anyone to keep using those mugs. :(

8. Most hardware stores have them. |
|
Be forewarned, though---Home Depot and Lowe's have what my husband refers to as the "pussy" testing kits. :P  They're overpriced and only get about four items tested. You'd be better off going to an Ace Hardware or True Value if you have one near you---they carry much better testing kits.
