My great grandfather missed the boat!
The one he was supposed to emigrate to this country on, ended up taking the next one.

In 1912.

Three guesses, and the first seven dount count as to which boat he missed.
(My Dad still has the boarding pass)

1. Lucky great grandfather.
And lucky you.

I think I can guess the name of the boat.

The pass would be interesting to see.

3. My great grandfather missed a boat too.
It was lost in a blizzard and nearly 200 on board drowned.

5. You got it.
Some bureaucrat in Europe kept wanting other documentation, and thus he missed a transport to Britain to meet the boat.

So he ended up taking the next one out.

6. Freaky
When my older cousin was in college and home on the weekends, he used to take the train back on Monday. Same train every week. One particular Monday he woke up with a terrible nose bleed. The pillow and sheets were a mess. He did not go. That day day the train was involved in a terrible accident with 100 people killed. The car were he normally rode was completely destroyed.

He never had such a nose bleed before or since.
