8. But I admire that movie very much,
it was on again a few months ago and I admired how subdued it was compared to most "big musicals" - not a single garish "production number," all the songs woven directly into the story rather than being separate from the story, the authentic costumes, the skillful performances, the gorgeous scenery - now THAT is how to do a musical film the right way.

9. i agree --
it is one of my favorite movies but, i think a lot of people around here make fun of it. i would definitely put it in my top 20-50 all time favorite movies.

one of these days i am going to make my own list:P

11. If the have to make fun of a musical film,
they should make fun of "Chicago" instead of "The Sound of Music." It also won the Oscar for Best Picture, but "Chicago," in contrast to the professionalism of "The Sound of Music," is just a series of garish production numbers strung together by a paper-thin plot and performed with barely-adequate talent. If they have to make fun of a musical film here, they should pick one that really deserves it, not one that shows sophistication and expertise like "The Sound of Music" does.
