What's your favorite Bill HIcks routine
Mine would have to be the Hooligans. Perhaps, it's because when my husband introduced me to him, this was the routine he played but I laughed my ass off. Here it is:

What's yours?

1. Where to start...? Probably Bill's rants on Jay Leno and Rush Limbaugh
The Leno rant was really funny, especially when Satan got involved...

15. what makes the Leno routine so biting
is that Bill admits that Leno used to be funny. And he was, too.

2. Come to think of it, there's also Hicks' "Shane" routine...
Where he compares Republican-dominated America to Shane in terms of how we've dealt with Iraq. Very profound.

16. One of my favorites--it still rings true, alas:
"I'm sick of us arming the world, and then sending troops over to destroy the fucking arms, you know what I mean? We keep arming these little countries, and then we blow the shit out of 'em. We're like the bullies of the world, you know. We're like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herders feet.

"Pick it up."

"But I don't want to pick it up Mister, You'll shoot me."

"Pick up the gun."

"Mister, I dont want no trouble, huh. I just came to town to get some hard rock candy for my kids and some gingham for my wife. I dont even know what gingham is, but she goes through ten rolls a week of that stuff.. I ain't looking for no trouble, Mister."

"Pick up the gun"

(reaches down to pick up gun)
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"

"You all saw him, he had a gun"

18. Bill at the Waffle House

I’ve noticed anti-intellectualism in this country. Last week, I was in Nashville, Tennessee. After the show, I went to a Waffle House. I’m not proud of it, but I was hungry.

And I’m sitting there and I’m eating and I’m reading a book. Right? I’m alone. I don’t know anybody. I’m eating and I’m reading a book. Fine.

Waitress comes over to me. (He makes gum-snapping noises.) "What you reading for?"

I said, "Wow! I’ve never been asked that. Gawd dang it, ya stumped me. Not, what am I reading? But, what am I reading for? Well, hmmm, I guess I read for a lot of reasons, but one of the main ones is so I don’t end up being a fucking waffle waitress. Yea, that would have to be pretty high on the list."

Then this trucker, in the next booth, gets up, stands over me and says, "Looks like we got ourselves a reader."

What the fuck is going on here? Did I walk into Klan rally in a Boy George costume or something, ya know? This is a book. I read. Am I stepping out of some intellectual closet?
