A story of a driver's license in Germany

The start: 1993, MissHoneychurch is 18 and gets her driver's license. Now in Germany, you have to take classes in theory and then you have those driving lessons. It wasn't quite cheap. Anyway, in the end I was the proud owner of one of those:



The years after 1993 I was a happy driver, could get around in Europe with one of those. I even got an International driver's license with my German driver's license.

Move forward in time. We are now in the year 2007. We have the European Union. A lot of stuff got unified. So also the driver's license. This summer I want to go to the Ukraine and need an International driver's license.

The International one looks like this:



It is gray on the outside, flappy paper, only valid for three years. Now comes the thing. I needed to get an European driver's license first to get the International one.



Why????? I got the International license in 1997 with my German license. :grr:

The only plus is, that the new picture looks better :)

And now you know how my driver's license looks like. Poor you.

The ones I took this time I KNEW I took them for the driver's license, so I tried to look not too horrible :D

I am far happier with it shorter.
