Can you and your child survive on $25,000 a month?
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — The $25,000 a month in child support and household expenses that rapper 50 Cent pays to the mother of his 10-year-old son is not enough, says the boy's mother, Shaniqua Tompkins.

The rapper is "worth tens and tens of millions of dollars," said her attorney, Raoul Felder.

The parents of young Marquise Jackson are wrangling over the issue in family court in this Long Island community, where 50 Cent arrived Friday in an armored SUV equipped with a satellite dish.

50 Cent no longer needs to worry about the choice he famously expressed on a 2004 album — "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

With his G-Unit record label, clothing line, ring tones and other enterprises, 50 Cent — whose real name is Curtis Jackson — reeled in an estimated $33 million in the past year, according to Forbes. He has sold more than 11 million albums and has a new album, "Curtis," due out in September.

His lawyer, Brett Kimmel, called Tompkins "insatiable."

"Her demands keep escalating," he told the Daily News.

Closed-door hearings on the child-support case are scheduled to continue this coming week.

But it's nether here nor there. If the father makes a lot of money, why shouldn't he pay child support proportionally to what he makes?

6. I dunno...
but if 'fiddy' wants to forward that monthly $25k directly to me, my cat and my boyfriend, I'll conduct some very well documented experiments into whether or not it actually is enough to live on.

:hi:

21. Why should she HAVE to raise him on $25k/month?
This man made $33 million last year. Assuming he suddenly isn't sucking and G Unit clothes aren't suddenly unpopular (neither seem to be the case), he's probably earning at least $33 million a year.

$33 million per year is $2.75 million per month; if half of it goes to the various tax men, you're looking at, free and clear, $1.375 million. Per month.

$25,000 per month is a hell of a lot--but it's less than two percent of his take-home. We're all liberals here, all into the welfare of the child and all that. I think a child which you fathered is worth more than two percent of your take-home.

When yer old man makes $33 million a year, you deserve some fuckin' BLING!!!

11. Child support is relative to the income of the parents.
So obviously the mother thinks 50 should be paying more due to his income.

In most states it's a simple calculation to determine child support but the starting point is adding the income of the parents together.

12. It's not mere survival at stake here
Fiddy needs a forklift to move his money. I think he can swing a bit more than $25,000/month.

Come to think of it, he should hire me as his "personal money handler." I can drive a forklift.

or so most state's laws think.

That's why child support is tied to the income of the parents.

Yeah $25,000 is alot of money but he just made about $400,000,000 from his share in Vitamin water. His son is entitled to live as well as he does. I've seen pictures of his son wearing bullet proof vests, chinchilla coats, and pounds of diamonds so I doubt it's the money the matters to 50. He wants to be Mr Nice guy and spoil him when he wants to but he doesn't want his son to live in the same manner that he does because that would mean his ex would too.

16. Maybe she should ask for a flat 17% pretax
I believe that's what it is in Wisconsin for one child. I don't get child support so I don't know for sure. If he's worth that kind of money than he should be supporting his child accordingly. I don't think it's fair to call a woman a gold digger in this case.

19. It took me a whole year to earn $25k (in 2005).
Hell yeah, I could live on $25k a month, and would end up giving the majority of it away to people who really needed money!

20. Well, too fucking bad for 50 Cent
Child support is based on the absent parent's income - here in California, I had to pay 25% of my income BEFORE taxes in child support. That came out to over $600 a month for one child and my paycheck was always less than half of what I grossed. I paid so much in child support that I couldn't afford to see my child who lives in Virginia.

How come rich fucks like 50 Cent don't have to pay like that? Sure, make it sound like she's a golddigger - he's a cheap asshole, as far as I'm concerned. Either everyone should pay it the same way or they should change the rules but it makes no sense that someone who has enough money for "an armored SUV equipped with a satellite dish" should have to pay significantly less of a percentage than a poor person like me. :grr:

22. Exactly. CS payments should be based on income.
If one's income is low, it doesn't make sense to expect a fortune. But, if it's high, it's reasonable for the payments to be higher.

25. You know what? I've completely changed my tune on this one...
...all in the space of a few posts. She can and should get more, because obviously, he's worth more. However, I also think she should be required to account for every cent. What it goes for, how often, and how it benefits the child. I doubt she's spending 10% of the 25K she's already getting on this child.
