Greatest back-to-back NCAA champions . . . ever?
I think the case can be made that it is the Oregon State Beavers, winning the 2006 and just now the 2007 College World Series. In 2006, they lost their opening game and fought back through the losers bracket to win it all. This year, they were the last team invited to the national playoffs, swept through the regional, the super regional and the CWS in a dominating display of fundamental baseball.

Hail to Beaver Nation!

That statement is true in more than just the NCAA!

I got a million of them. Literally. It's a never-ending source of amusement for us.
_______________________

Remember, when you play the Beavers, you also play every team they have ever played.

I know we debated this before the season, but since it's that time of the month, er year, I thought we should revive it. So who's it gonna be. Personally I look for the Trojans to go deep early and often.

I agree but I think the Beavers might be able to snatch a few interceptions.

The Beavers better tighten up if they want to stop the Trojans from penetrating their red zone. The last thing anybody wants is another Trojan blow out. On the other hand, I seriously doubt the Trojans can go at it for a full 60 minutes.

I hope the Beavers pull it out!

I hope the Trojan defense bends, not breaks, deep in Beaver territory.

I predict the Trojans will reach the end zone long before the Beavers, leaving the beavers frustrated.

It might get a little hairy for the Trojans if they continue to pound the Beavers like they've done in the past!

I'm just worried about the Trojans penetrating deep into the Beavers backfield.

I heard the trojans are going in a little stiff. But they'll come around.

The Trojans will probably get a little soft in the second quarter, but they'll be hard to beat after resting up at halftime.

I bet the Trojans are already boning up on their playbooks.

The Beavers will get stuffed.

I think the Trojans are going to give the Beavers a real ribbing in this game.

In a change of strategy, the Trojans have given up attacking the Beavers with the deep play and are now ramming it down their throats.

Will the Beavers bend over for the Trojans or will they just lay down and take it?

The Beavers are definitely going to get creamed.

I for one would like to see the Beavers on top.

Don't be surprised if the Trojans have a come-from-behind victory.

What more can you say about this Beaver defense? They are spreading it out and the Trojan attack has been relentless. The Trojans just keep coming and coming. They're pounding the Beavers! There are gonna be a lot of sore Beavers tomorrow.

The Beavers have the best shot of making the Trojans go down on the BCS chart. If the Beavers can play relaxed the Trojans will find themselves in a deep hole.

The Trojans might not even get up for this one.

I heard the Beavers have had cramping problems all year. It's going to take them a lot longer to get warmed up and ready for action.

The Trojans might try to stretch the Beaver D but the Beavers will spring back nicely.

The Beavers will put it in the air, but the Trojans will rise to the occasion and take care of business.

Offensively, the Trojans will use the stretch play, so the Beaver defense is going to have to tighten up along the front line.

The Trojans have the staying power to make the Beavers look all wet.

Tackling will be the key. It can be hard to get a good grip on those slippery Trojans.

I feel sorry for the Trojans when the Beavers strart trying to strip balls.

If the Beavers can't handle the initial Trojan thrust it will be all over in the first two minutes.

I actually expect a beaver upset, due to the small size of the trojans.

The average Trojan drive lasts less than two minutes.

If the Beavers are playing tense it will make the Trojans much more explosive. That and the fact that the trojans are a young team.

I say the Trojans will get up for this game at the mere sight of the Beavers.

I think the Beavers would prefer one long sustained drive.

I guess nobody learned from Les Miles. Giving the Beavers a tongue-lashing is only going to make them readier to go.

Trojans look to get moving from deep in a hole. If they can continue to stretch out the Beavers with the long one, they should get easy penetration in the soft middle.

The Trojans are too excited! They'll be called for a false start just when the game is getting started.

I don't think you'll ever hear the Trojan's coach say "Let ‘er rip!"

The trojans are going to need to load the “box" if they plan on showing the beaver's who's boss.

I don't think the Trojans can get up for this one. The Beavers have been loose all year.

Maybe they'll show a Beavers scrimmage. Lots of guys like to see Beaver on Beaver action.

Depending upon how the Beavers present themselves during warm-ups, I would not be surprised to see the Trojans prematurely lose it before the game even starts.

Beavers will have a hard time digesting another Trojan climax.

Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 05:22 AM by Awsi Dooger
I'm a USC alum and I'm positive we don't have baseball national championships in all of those years. Not even close. That's maybe 10 too many.

For one thing, the last was in 1998. USC didn't win titles in 2000 or 2001. Nor 1995. They was a big drought from the late '70s until a high scoring championship game win over Arizona State in 1998.

5. Uh, UCLA Men's Basketball?
I know you're referencing college baseball, but you must be joking if you're comparing Oregon State to the greatest dynasty college sports has ever witnessed.

NCAA Titles (11): 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1995

9. Your off a little bit on the greatest dynasty
No team at any level in any sport compares with Oklahoma State Wrestling.

34 National Team Titles
45 Conference Team Titles
130 Individual Titles
210 wrestlers have won 414 All America honors
A 97 percent home winning percentage
The first 4 time NCAA champion
49 Olympians (16 medalists, including 12 golds) I can't remember the exact placement, but I think OSU would be 13th in a list of medal count by country.
Never placed lower than 7th as a team at the NCAAs.
Overall dual record of 926-96-20
11 four time all americans
15 three time national champions

26. Wow, did everyone miss the point
See, folks expected USC to win those championships in the early 1970s. Nobody beat Oklahoma State in wrestling. UCLA was the college basketball team for the ages. But Oregon State
This was quite simply the most unexpected, unbelievable repeat in the NCAA ever.

27. Yeah, but if 'we' do it next year**No-Fucking-Body** will be too shocked.
I understood you perfectly, probably because I understand that this is the Beavs we're talking about.
It's like if people say that 'so what if OSU beat USC in football last year, so did UCLA.'

They just don't understand.

The Beavs had a soul-crushing history in sports with only a few bright spots, but no NC's but men's cross country.

But now, three CWS appearances in three years. 2 championships. This program won't sneak up on anybody anymore.
Probably in retrospect nobody should have been shocked. :)

I guess the updated saying will have to be "This is how the rings look."

28. and they are young
oh how I remember the good old days of Early-90's (when I was in high school in Portland) Beaver sports. Except for that one hoops fun with Gary Payton in the 80s, Corvallis was a wasteland. I knew people who played football for the Beavs, and they were nothing special (hell, I could have started on the soccer team)

Good for the Beavs to have some way to keep up with the massive Nike money flowing into Eugene. from everything I hear, this was supposed to be a down year with the big guns ready for 08. scary, and I hope they can keep it going.

30. Forgive me but I was shocked
The Beavs had lost a bunch of players from last year's team.
A sixth place finish in the Pac-10?
A losing conference record of 10-14?

Don't get me wrong, I was pulling for you guys the entire way. But I saw you as heavy underdogs to repeat.

That's what made the story great for me.
