First ever visit at Cracker Barrel. I was not impressed.
My FIL wanted to go there for his b-day. Now, I've never been to Cracker Barrel, as I remember their anti-gay stance back in the 90's (has it changed? I have no idea), but when it's your FIL's choice, what do you do?

I'm not sure what I expected, but I expected better food!! Canned vegetables? Meat by-products in the cornbread? (I'm assuming this means that they are made with LARD?!?!?)

:puke:

I understand that this place inspires devotion in some people, but after yesterday's visit, I sure can't see why.

2. I don't get it, either....
Home cooking? I can honestly say that if my Mom or Grandmother had cooked THAT poorly I would have starved to death as a child. Unfortunately, I do end up there from time to time, and the service is just pathetic. Or maybe that's just the way they express their anti-gay stance now.......

3. When "Chicken Fried Chicken" is a "Fancy Fixin'"
I don't think that "Impress" is what they're going for.

I had breakfast there once a LOOOOOONG time ago. It was good. One of those kinds where you know everything is somehow coated in lard. You couldn't eat it often, but once in a while it was just sinful.

4. I ate there when my local one opened ...
I have to say, it was one of the most delicious meals I've ever eaten. I think I had teriyaki chicken with some sides, and this brownie crumble thing for dessert.

I'm sure it was unimaginably horrible from a nutritional standpoint, but damn, it was good.

6. There was definitely no Teriyaki chicken on the menu at this one
It was all stuff like pot roast and (as mentioned above) "Chicken fried chicken."

Eyeballing what our party of 7 ordered, everything looked way overcooked and soaked in grease.

It was just gross.

5. You are correct
I ate there once as a vegetarian and the meal included their cooked apples. Found out later they cook those apples in bacon grease.

What a disgusting place.
