Egg whites, glue, hair spray, gel...
what's the best way to get a mohawk to fan? We've used sprays, gels and egg white...and I can't get it to fan evenly, without separating into these little clumps. Suggestions? Advice?

Help?

4. No...not spikes...

I've been using my hands (slimy) and a comb (took all day on Friday to get the gunk out of the comb...and to think that same gunk's in his hair). :scared:

I tried to get a picture of it...but for some reason, the one that I took when I cut it won't upload to my photobucket. It's only 2-3 inches, though.

(edited to specify that it's the 'hawk that's 2-3 inches...not the pic)

15. If I took him to a salon, they probably would've...
along with a whole line of stuff to use. I did it in the kitchen, though.

I'm a tightwad.

10. Does it shampoo out?
I've known kids who have used glue...but that stuff has to literally be scrubbed out with baking soda.

12. The care and feeding of mohawks

Fanning is halfway down the page. No idea on her expertise, but it sounds reasonable.

13. That's the site I found when he first mentioned wanting one...
I found that hair glu stuff she mentions...but it's expensive (even the cheaper stuff she talks about is 6.00). I bought a can of #4 Rave and it works better than the egg whites...doesn't droop in the back...but it took me all day to get it out of the comb. That stuff is scary. And it still separates into...not spikes, but it doesn't fan well, either. It's got to be something I'm doing wrong. I'm about to just tell him to lay with his head on something covered with plastic wrap while it dries.

:scared:

16. Knox unflavored gelatine.

Though really the type of fixative is secondary to simply taking as much care as possible.

Also, it merits mention that caring about perfect fanning is poseur shit, strictly for postcard punx. ;)

19. Seriously
Ozone chewing AquaNet (strongest hold), a bristle brush, a hair dryer, towel and either bathroom counter or table or something. Lay towel on table, have him hold his head so the soon to be up 'hawk lays flat along the table and you brush the hair out in the shape you want. Spray liberally with the 'net and direct hair dryer (on low) from the scalp outward towards end of hair until hair is nice and stiff. Repeat on other side of head. Repeat and repeat until it's nice and stiff.

The other stuf may hold, but is a freaking pain to wash out, and the egg and gelatin mixes tend to stink if its a hot sweaty day.
