Coke Zero...what the hell is it?!
I've been really, really good about not drinking any soda recently, but I am totally dragging ass today and NEED the caffeine. So I sauntered over to the vending machine, hit the Coke button...and out falls Coke ZERO. Um...what?

How is this different than Diet Coke?

PS: It's GROSS.

1. I think it's good.
Tastes much more like real coke than diet coke.

It's just a different forumaltion of artificial sweeteners.

3. Well considering
I find Diet Coke to be the most vile substance on the planet, I agree that it tastes slightly better.

However, I still can't manage to swallow it without grimacing.

4. My dear huskerlaw!
What about coffee?

No access?

Or you just don't drink it?

I would die if I couldn't have my coffee every morning after breakfast!

:hi:

but I'm kinda a snob...I don't like the stuff we make in the teacher's lounge and it's a huge pain to actually go somewhere to get some.

5. And what the heck is "extreme diet pepsi"?
I just spotted a case at my local supermarket.

Me, I still favor Jolt Cola ("all the sugar. twice the caffeine"): breakfast of computer geeks.

7. Its Pepsi with extra fiber
so your body actually burns calories trying to digest it.

Have you ever tried Water Joe? Its caffeinated water. For more fun, try making coffee out of it.

29. Twice the caffeine as regular cola
Coincidently, they started putting caffeine content on both products now. My can of Diet Pepsi next to me contains 35 mg of the stuff.

32. I just checked the label on the extreme pepsi
or whatever it's called: they added ginseng. Probably not in large enough quantities to have any effect (it's a very mild stimulant), but enough that they can advertise it as "exhilarating". I'll stick with green tea, thanks.

6. Serious answer
Coke Zero is a no-calorie version of Coke Classic.

Diet Coke actually has a different flavor formula than regular Coke, AKA Coke Classic. They came out with Coke Zero to appeal to people who like the regular flavor but dont want the calories.

just compared the ingredients of Coke Zero and Diet Coke. There is literally ONE different ingredient and it's pretty far down the list. Otherwise, the sweeteners are the same. So weird.

34. Well, they failed miserably.
It tastes like sugar, gas, and nothing else. At least the Brazilian version does.

It manages to be worse than Coke Light (I don't know if you have THAT up there; it replaced Diet Coke here) -- no small feat.

Claims to have vitamins added. Vitamins added to replace all of the vitamins that regular Coke rips from your body, as it erodes your intestines. Wow, Coke has made me feel good again about consuming poision. Now off to my "happy place"...

23. Okay, so I'm drinking a Coke Zero right this moment...
It's got a slick, black label, so I feel more "hip", I guess. Um, the taste? Hmmm, it tastes like a FUCKING DIET COKE! It doesn't have the same chemical after-taste that Diet Coke has, but it has some weird, saccharine-y after-taste that screams "Chemicals!!!!!" It's not that bad, and if you're addicted to the regular stuff, you could probably get used to it... I think it was invented for all of the people who contracted diabetes from drinking too much regular Coke. No need to jam the insulin pump into over-drive...

It has Phenylalanine which they are going to find out is the main cause for spontaneous human combustion. Not to mention arthritis.

Oh, and it comes with instructions. "Drink it down". Obey, and Consume.

27. I HAVE THE ANSWER
At least I'm pretty sure I do. Cokophiles correct me if I'm wrong.

Diet Coke was developed around the time as New Coke, and thus is a diet version of New Coke. Which is why it doesn't taste like Coke Classic.

Coke Light, which you could get in Europe for the past several years, tastes like Coke Classic. (I love Coke Light!) Very different taste from Diet Coke.

Coke Zero to me tastes just like Coke Light. I think it's just Coke Light in a different package.

the ingredients are the same!!!

Even mostly listed in the same order. The differences are: Coke Zero has Potassium Citrate instead of Citric Acid, and it has Acesulfame Potassuim, which Diet Coke does not. Otherwise, THEY'RE THE SAME THING!!!

...so why do they taste different? I find the whole thing very perplexing.

edit: oddly, I misspelled Acesulfame... :P

36. PROPER ANSWER.
It's muchly the same as Diet Coke.

In fact, it's nearly identical, except the ratio of the two artificial sweeteners was flipped.

In diet coke, there is more aspartme but less phenylaniline, but coke zero has less aspartme and more phenylaniline.

:)

Hope that helps!
