Viewed an awesome HBO movie last evening......
"The Fever" starring Vanessa Redgrave. Stunning performance with small roles played by Michael Moore (Yes - THE Michael Moore) and Angelina Jolie. I wish this film would be mandatory viewing for High School students at the very least. If you have HBO, I would encourage you to please put this on your list of films to watch.
It is heart-wrenching as well as thought-provoking. The core of the film has some very deep questions for each and every one of us to mull over and asks us to take an honest, hard look in the mirror.

1. I watched that also last week. Amazing movie.
It sad to me though, as the way she was talking toward the end of the movie, is they way I see so many here talk. "gradual". Fuck that. Change now.

2. Yes - gradual - it makes us feel good about ourselves without really
doing anything substantial. That includes myself. Would I be able to sell my home and possessions and donate all funds to the appropriate charities to help improve the situations? I doubt it. I help (like her) in the ways that I can all the while knowing that it is but a mere drop in the ocean of sorrows. Without the soul-searching by corporations who are wreaking havoc around the globe - all is lost, I'm afraid.

Glad you saw the film. Stays with you, doesn't it?

7. I don't know if I would give up my home
but my family and I have managed to do with very little. My computer is really my only luxury now, being profoundly HOH, it's the easiest way I have to connect with others. It's hard for me though to deny my kids, just have to keep telling myself "they don't need it, they won't care about it next week" etc.

Have you read the new Vanity Fair? Check out this article. It illustrates just how little (comparably) it would take to make a BIG change.

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2007/07/sachs200707

It's November 2006, and Sachs has just addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations. His message is straightforward: "Millions of people die every year for the stupid reason they are too poor to stay alive.… That is a plight we can end." Afterward, as the two of us have lunch in the crowded U.N. cafeteria, overlooking New York's East River, he continues: "The basic truth is that for less than a percent of the income of the rich world nobody has to die of poverty on the planet. That's really a powerful truth."

6. NOT AT ALL!
For me, it was a totally amazing look at ourselves and class structure. Definitely food for thought regarding our daily lives compared to the daily lives of others in unfortunate situations. Something that those in the WH should definitely be viewing, but they don't have the 'souls' to 'get it' on any level, I'm afraid.
