AP Reports causes of death in Benoit murder-suicide |
|
It's bad. The report says he strangled his wife, smothered his son and then hung himself, over a three day period. :( http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/nation/4921258.html

and I say that as a loyal wrestling fan . .
I see WWE's Wellness policy getting fucking shredded by a lot of parties if steroids played any part.
Just a god awful tragedy
Damn I've said that a lot the past twenty four hours in regards to this . . .
I think there's a press conference at 3.

What is the WWE's policy right now?

Isn't that why Angle was let go?

13. They do have a Wellness policy set. . |
|
and for a short while it seemed they were going to enforce it. . but then after the coverage on Eddie's death finally passed.. they seemed to lighten up on it . .
Angle was let go due to fears of his health I think yes if I remember correctly of course he decided to go to TNA and keep on wrestling.
hey Wetzbill if you see this.. maybe you can answer her better on the supposed Wellness policy . . .
As for how many more dies.. I don't know.. the past few years have just been horrible. This is probably the worse of it though.. mainly cause it's not Chris dying. it's him taking his wife and son with him.

It just seems that the 30-40 age range is where these 'alleged' steroid users are going over the edge. Which makes me wonder about Batista, Booker T, Randy Ortin (sp?), both the Hardy boys, Chris Masters.... :scared: How much longer before they go?

17. Almost all pro wrestlers take steroids. |
|
Rowdy Roddy Piper gave an interview a while back that said, if you want to be a pro wrestler, you HAVE to take steroids and live on pain pills. Otherwise, you'd better find another line of work. Piper was on 200 pain pills a day, at one time in his career.

Meds, maybe. Anti-depressants? Painkillers? Amp? I dunno. He probably took steroids, but not to a crazy extreme. If you look at him 5, 7, 9 years ago, compared to now, his physique hasn't improved a lot. It largely stayed the same. Now, if this was Scott Steiner, I'd think differently.
I guarantee you that they found some in the house. I'd guess 80% of the pros use something. They'll likely blame some/part/all of this on whatever they find. Every story needs a boogeyman.

I think it's been more of a maintenance cycle since he put most of his mass on. That's why I only went back those few years. It's not like he's recently become huge. I agree that he did them over a good amount of time, but to allege 'roid rage doesn't make much sense.

I sure wouldn't be surprised if he was on other medications, besides pain pills. I would say that steroids probably played a part, but that it is not the whole story.

Benoit, so it appears, had a history of this kind of behavior. Add depression/poor mental health and a high-pressure career to the mix, and you get a tragic result.

approved of that one. I'm familiar with the Simmons case, and my "armchair theory" has always been that the military gave Simmons a pretty rigidly structured life. Sociopaths can often perform passably when they are in a structured environment. However, once Simmons had retired from the service, that structure was gone.

Killing your own family members is bad enough but to kill your kid(s) in a slow and terrorizing way is beyond my comprehension. They die knowing their parent is killing them...I can't think of a worst way to end a life that was already too short to die in the first place.

I know gruesome murders are not extremely rare, but it just seems as if we're in a weird time period of experiencing far more than usual. Plus people seem more agitated and upset right now. Not just on DU, but everywhere I go...it's like there's something in the air.

I know what you are saying, but when it rains it pours. I *do* think that stress levels are higher than they should be and that has a lot to do with how things are in this country. I am even feeling it and am wondering how I am going to catch up on bills and stuff.
I don't know if it is worse than any other time, but I think it goes in cycles.

|
Familicide=killing of one's family (and often self). Experts on this phenomenon say that familicides are very rare but tend to come in "clusters", i.e. a bunch of them happen over a brief time period. Seems American society is experiencing a cluster right now.

Apparently Nancy was bound???? Edit: Towel to bound her hands and feets
A bible was found next to both of the bodies
Nancy was killed Friday.. The Son Saturday.. I think they said Benoit was either Saturday night or Sunday Morning
All three deaths via asphyxiation.
Prescription Medication (Including Anabolic Steroids) was found in the house.. but at this time they think they were legal
They had nothing to say about motive or what the text messages sent to his co-worker said.
He used some weight pully or something to kill himself. (I don't lift weights so I'm not sure what that would be)
2003 there was an incident (I did some looking.. a restraining order was invovled.. but obviously they reconciled)
that's all I can remember..

My ex-husband used steriods (illegally) and was also a physical/mental abuser. I don't doubt steriods played a part in his behavior (I think he would have been that way w/out the drugs - just think they added to his behaviors).
I know I've said it over and over but...just awful. Poor woman, poor child, poor Benoit - how messed up he must have been.

|
I'm sure we would all agree that it's sad and tragic.
But when people kill others before offing themselves, I cannot think of them as anything but wickedly, unforgivably selfish. In my eyes these annihilators and shoot-up-the-mall types who kill themselves in the end are true scum...and utter cowards. It's monstrous.
We all have authority over ONE life---our own. One and only one.
These cases make me so f*%#in' !!!

I'm just saying that suicide is one's right (I'm not judging that, nor whatever issues Benoit was dealing with) but I abhor the thought of taking anyone else along to the hereafter on one's own timetable....

39. One thing I've noticed about all the comments I've read about it |
|
No one seems to be doing the full-on hate and judging that people usually do after something like this that makes me feel dirty and far more ashamed of being a human than the original crime did.
I would say it's because Chris is already dead and so there's no real point to insanely violent revenge fantasies, but I've seen people be really really hateful and say really really nasty things about Cho, for instance.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that it's a relief to read expressions of grief and sadness and not expressions of hate and violent vengeance and fake moral outrage. Yay for not being completely turned off by the human species for once.
And yes, I can imagine how horrible it must have been and everyone involved is in my thoughts. May they all rest in peace.

Mainly because Benoit was so well-respected in the pro wrestling community for his natural talent, hard working style, and seemingly decent personality (on the surface, it appears). Not to mention that nothing like this has ever happened in the business, and it has major ramifications beyond the incident itself.
