how old is too old for bangs? help.
I'm having a fight x( I've planned for like months to get bangs cut, I don't mean to wear them straight across like a kid, I just want bangs thick and long enough to partly cover my eyes. But my best friend just told me I'm too old for them and I'll look silly, like I'm trying to look like a little girl. And maybe he's right and I need to think of something new, I don't know.
So I told him I was gonna settle it by asking DU, so someone give me an opinion please.

Then type in: Bette Davis

A wonderful career and she did wear bangs for a long time.

2. Your friend is an idiot.
There's no arbitrary age limit on bangs, and some of us just look better with them. I have a widow's peak and rather intense eyes, and the no-bangs look is just way too harsh for me--bangs soften my features nicely.

If it's a look you want, go for it!

19. More than one.
Wear what you want. Christ, if I listened to my best friend for fashion advice, I'd look like a slightly heavier Gilligan.

Exactly what is on his resume that makes him such an expert on bangs and age limits, BTW?

25. hehe resume
He's a buyer/rep. for a clothing company in San Fran, all his friends are pretty fashiony types, so he thinks he can sound like an authority telling ME how to be but I think he was just talking shyt this time. I've been planning my new hairdo and he was just trying to kill my bang buzz x( I told him I was gonna check with DU to settle the fight. I can't get him on the phone right now but I'm gonna tell him how he got smacked down!

27. Keep your bang buzz alive.
No offense to your friend (actually, offense if you want, I don't care), but I honestly can't remember hearing advice more stupid than his. An age limit for bangs? Absurd. An approximate age limit for mullets in the south, maybe, but for bangs on women? That's just ridiculous. Whether bangs look good on someone is a function of hair color, size of eyebrows, eye color, shape of face, complexion, how straight / wavy the girl's har is, and dozens of other factors - not the number after the date on your birth certificate.

He's a rep for a clothing company, not a hair stylist. He has no more expertise than the guy in front of 7-11 who begs me for change every day. Your "...all his friends are pretty fashiony types, so he thinks he can sound like an authority telling ME how to be..." makes him sound like the most pompous person I've ever heard of, which is really saying something. Don't listen to a word he says.

34. Keep us posted
I'd like to hear how he reacts to the comments this thread has generated.

I hate to keep pouring on, but I was on the phone with my best female friend about 45 minutes ago. She's 40 (I'm 43), looks about 30, and I told her what your friend said to you.

"How old is this girl?"
"No idea, actually. Judging by her pictures, mid 20's."
"What a dick this guy is. Who named him the decider of what is in and what's out at what age? I'd love to see him try to tell me I'm too old for bangs. My mother has bangs and she's 66."

(Note her shot at Bush - she's been using the word "decider" religiously for months now, one of many reasons I love this girl like a sister :) )

36. okay so..
I'll have bangs when I'm 66 too..

So I told him while ago how wrong he got proven and he acted like he didn't care and was just "getting my goat", which he does a lot but I know he got some kinda charge this morning acting like a Hair Authority :eyes: Then tonight he acts all cute so I'll forget what a bully he was being.
He was so wrong, I totally won the fight, but I forgot to call him the Decider.. next time he gets bossy though, probably tomorrow.
He's like my brother too, we grew up together. He tries to tell me what to do but we both know he's full o' shyt, this time I proved it lol

5. Hmmmm, I think your friend must be reading an outdated fashion do's and
don't's book or something.

IMHO, whether you should wear bangs or not depends on how they look on you, not on your age. I'm 51, and have bangs; sometimes I brush them back, sometimes I don't, and so far, I've not been ticketed by the Fashion Police.

15. the only hair rule I follow is this:
No pigtails on adult women. I'm not talking about the kind that are tied behind the ears, but the childish pigtails that are tied an inch or two above the ears...there's just no excuse for that. :D

13. The style you're describing is for adults
The kind of bangs you're talking about aren't childish at all. In fact, the long sweeping bangs would look odd on kids actually. I say go for it and ignore your friend who is putting waaay too many rules into a hairstyle that's fun and pretty popular at the moment for adults of all ages.

because my left eye doesn't work anyway really, I'm always seeing double and I have to close that eye to focus a lot, so it'll work out everyway. I'm gonna do it, I have to make an appointment and wait but soon I'm gonna do it.

29. I'm 45 and have always worn bangs.
I wear my hair fairly short, just above shoulder length, and I definitely look better with bangs because I have a flat forehead. The bangs are light and wispy and blend in with the rest of my 'do.
