Attention ravers, club kids and other dance freaks
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 06:29 PM by bigwillq
Past or present...........

What is your favorite dance club ever?

My recent trip to NYC made me reflect on my past rave/dance club experiences.

I went to Esquelita this past weekend, which is a Latin Club on 39th street on the West side. It's a cool club with hot Latin boys and great music but it's pretty tame compared to some of the other places I've been to in the past.

I miss the late 90s and early 2000s when Tunnel and Twilo were in their heyday.

Tunnel remain my No. 1 all-time fave club with Twilo a close second.

So tell me what is your fave. I want to hear the stories too! :bounce:

2. Awww. I'll Play!
But I grew up in Montreal so I don't know any of the clubs you went to. My two fave clubs were Maximum Security (guess the decor of that place....heh heh heh) and Cox. Cox had the best music and an awesome dance floor and also a ummm very interesting basement. It was a pitch black labrynth where you had to feel your away around. Good times. Unfortunately, neither place is open anymore. Dance clubs in Montreal have a very short life before something more trendy comes along. I don't go to clubs much anymore. The last time was to a place called Le Stud. It was a bear / leather bar and I felt totally out of place in my pastel polo shirt and bermuda shorts. A friend dragged me there because he was curious. We got some very odd looks from the clientele.......

3. Good stories.
Good times. I've never been to Montreal but I heard it's a good time up there. I don't club like I use to but I still enjoy going to the clubs and think back about all the good times I had.

4. I've always had good luck at Garden of Eden
On the corner of Hollywood and La Brea (in Hollywood). It's nothing special. In fact, I've been to many more places with much better energy. However, I've always had good luck meeting the hotties there. My friends and I would park, drink a six pack each in the car, cruise up to the club, maintain the buzz, and start dancing. I'd say it reached the high of its powers in 2004.

I've also had really good times (really feeling the energy of the crowd on the dance floor) at: Highlands, Deep, Avalon, Cinespace (all hollywood), Zanzibar, 217, and Circle Bar (all santa monica).

6. All Los Angeles
There are some good clubs in Vegas too. There is a lot more illicit drugs there that liven up the party a bit. However, recently, they've been over-run by hyper-aggressive douche bags. They are also too big, so if it isn't at full capacity, then the energy is just DEAD.

7. Some of the clubs in NYC are huge too
but they're always full.

I am long past my drug days haven't done anything, even pot, in about four years. But I do miss it at times.

16. Garden of Eden was listed as fourth best club
in the world in this on-line article I was reading. Twilo was rated second best. This club in the UK was first.

10. I rarely went to clubs.
I grew up in the Midwest/Plains. Most of my rave experiences weren't even in buildings-they were at the river bottoms or in cornfields.

I can recommend some lovely fields, though my favorite has now been plowed down and turned into McMansions. :(

11. I never went to an outdoor rave.
But most of my raves were in big old factory-like buildings...one was at the Hartford Civic Center but it was kind of lame...too supervised.

12. The outdoor ones were incredible.
I had college friends who had gone to indoor raves. They stated that, after attending in a cornfield where you could get lost at any time, it was 1000x better outside.

I think it's the atmosphere. It just reminds you of a slasher movie out in a field, even with tons of people practically on top of each other.

14. On a clear night it's incredible.
You feel so in touch with everything and everyone there. I don't know-you just feel like you're part of the cosmos.

Then again, that could have been the massive amount of drugs talking.

15. Probably the drugs.
I think I would shroom outside and not roll X....everytime I did X not in a club, it didn't have the same effect.

17. X is cool outside too.
I used to do it at a local water tower and it was fantastic.

Acid and 'shrooms are even better outside. Like I said-clear night. You don't need the rave-just a blanket and a headset.

18. Shrooms kick ass outside.
We did it once in a blizzard and it was about the best thing ever.....every snowflake was indeed different! We just watched them fall under the street light for like three hours.

19. Now imagine this scene:
Outdoors, middle of nowhere, clear night full of stars. It's summer and, out of nowhere, comes a bit of sprinkles for a couple of minutes. Then the sky is clear all over again.

That will fuck you up for a long time, especially once the "sounds of nature" start kicking in.

Little wood chips.

It's true. :P
