Facts that Clear Channel can't deny
The Dixie Chicks success with Taking The Long Way, provided irrefutable proof to those in the industry that music can succeed commercially without mainstream radio airplay. Using a smart combination of internet marketing, television, satellite radio, and word of mouth, may in the future make FM music radio irrelevant.
THE TOUR Dixie Chicks haters could not help themselves in expressing their glee when news came out that the Dixie Chicks "Accidents and Accusations” tour was seeing slower than expected ticket sales. Talk show demagogue Bill O'Reilly was licking his chops as he had industry "experts" on his program. According to O'Reilly the group was going to cancel "More than forty shows in the United States." At the time O'Reilly said this, the group had not cancelled any shows. When all was said an done, they canceled fourteen shows, but later added nineteen others in their place.
While there is no disputing that the Dixie Chicks lost fans through this ordeal, those claiming that they saw their careers ruined are simply resorting to wishful thinking.
The Accidents and Accusations Tour, began in Detroit, Michigan, in July of 2006. When all was said and done, the group played before five hundred thousand fans, and saw a gross of thirty two million dollars. They saw sell out crowds in Washington, D.C, Los Angeles, Tacoma, Washington, and even conservative Dallas, Texas, the final show of the tour. All but one show in Canada was sold out including a multiple night stand in Toronto that drew more than thirty thousand fans. The same could be said when they went to Australia to play before SRO crowds.
Ever notice how Bill O'Reilly never follows up on stories like this one?
