Parents Leave Child Alone In Stroller For 45 Minutes While They Go On Disney Ride - Arrested
<snip>

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Two Orange County parents face child abuse charges after riding the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at Walt Disney World with their toddler left in a stroller outside.

Juan and Dannette Rodriguez were arrested for leaving their 3-year-old daughter alone in her stroller for 45 minutes. The parents told investigators they accidentally left the girl in the stroller on Saturday afternoon. They were with a group of other adults and children, and each parent thought the other had the girl.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the girl was found in the sun, turning red, covered in sweat and nearly lifeless. Paramedics revived the girl after taking her indoors and giving her water.

Authorities said the child was left in the heat and sun for nearly an hour.

1. Yeah, but have you ridden the newly revamped Pirates ride?
You can't let the damn kids keep you from having a good time at the Magic Kingdom!

2. geez, why not take her on the ride?
Pirates of the Carribean is perfectly safe for 3 year olds. Leaving her out there is inexcusable.

3. I think, they thought they did take the child with them...
The article says they thought the child was with the other group.

strollers and bored, justifiably whiny toddlers inside the casinos.

I'm a mom and we've put off a lot of things that we'd enjoy because we couldn't manage them with Jr. B. Now he's older, we can leave him to stay with friends and relatives and we occasionally enjoy ourselves with adult fun.

As fast as they grow, it was a rather short wait in reality.

As for the excuse that they thought that "other parents were watching," um NOOOOO. You either KNOW the other parents are watching or you sacrifice FOR the kid.

9. Sounds like it could have been an "honest" mistake
but the parents should at least have to take some sort of parenting classes or something...

10. Obviously this is Disney's fault
Who are THEY to make people wait 45 minutes for a 2 minutes ride? This is an outrage!

11. I don't want to jump to conclusions
I can see how this could happen. Mom asks alternate caregiver to watch the child, then alternate caregiver sees dad standing next to the stroller and assumes dad has taken over care of the child. We're all human, and it is possible to make mistakes.

12. I've never understood how people can screw up like that
If I have my kids with me, I make sure I know where they are. Always. I don't just assume someone else has them.

I've been known to check several times to make sure the kids were all in their carseats or that someone was in charge of each one. It's not rocket science.
