Wisconsin Man Could Be Jailed For 4 Years For Stomping Boy's Pet Fish To Death

A 40-year-old Sheboygan man is facing up four years in prison after stomping a boy’s pet fish to death Tuesday night, according to a criminal complaint filed today.

Anastacio Molina Jr., of 507 S. 13th St., was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property, both misdemeanors with penalty enhancers because of a prior conviction for child abuse. The charges carry fines up to $11,000.

According to the complaint:
Police were called to Molina’s home about 5:30 p.m. after a caller reported he was destroying things in the home. Molina had ordered his live-in girlfriend to move out of his house earlier in the day, and police had been called to the home five hours earlier for a verbal dispute.

Arriving the second time, police found the remains of an Oscar fish on the sidewalk. The girlfriend’s 12-year-old son — who owned the fish — told police Molina had removed the fish from its tank and stomped it to death outside.

It was a cruel and sadistic thing to do to the kid, and it's an extreme form of abuse. Abusers often kill the pets of their spouses and/or kids as a form of emotional torture.

I don't think he's facing jail because the fish is dead. He's facing it because of the emotional trauma he inflicted on the child. That was my point, and it's the truth. If he'd killed his own fish, he wouldn't be in trouble.
