Which circle of hell does the DMB reside in? |
|
When you peel away all of rampant strumming and noodling, the preening and posturing, and all of the sophomoric lyrics and pinched-throat gurgling called 'singing'...
The Dave Matthews Band really sucks.

dunno - I don't think I've ever heard them. But being you say that I understand why those who go to their concerts get so wasted before they go in :D

3. My copycats are very rare |

But I like to save 'em for when they really count. :P
You're not missing much. They're basically a frat house band with fancier instruments and delusions of grandeur.
I never found getting wasted improved them much. They're less sloppy than the Grateful Dead, but far more contrived. Unlike Dave Matthews, Jerry Garcia never pretended he was any good. Or as Bob Weir once told David Letterman, "Let me know when the Dead makes a good album." :D

"Tripping Billies."
It's a guilty pleasure.
I haven't heard it in more than ten years, though. I liked it then. I'm not sure if I'd still like it.
But yeah, 99.999% of the DMB sucks.
"Dave Matthews Band and Hootie & The Blowfish, I gotta bring it up. Um, seem like nice guys. Seemingly very nice guys. But never has a CD purchase spoken more volumes about a person in their life. Hootie & Dave Matthews Band, I know who you are. You're not an evil person, you're not a lawbreaker. You don't rock as a rule. But when you do it's in a very VH1 kinda way, you know, if you're into Hootie. And um, you like the show Friends a lot. A lot. You wish that Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan could be in every move, EVERY movie. Not just as a loving couple, but as a functionally retarded couple that would just say little nuggets of wisdom we could put on a little mug, maybe, or a bumper sticker." - Janeane Garofalo, 1995 HBO Half-Hour

5. Brilliant Garafalo quote |

Hootie was a frat house band too. They're like the AM radio version of DMB, when it comes down to it.
