I have a job interview Monday!! |
|
So I just got off the phone with an HR person after an hour's prep/interview for Monday. I think it went really well. It sounds like they are really interested in me. They are a large established biotech firm whom I think is going to be interviewing me for a position where I have a lot of chance to excercise my brain! So many of my past jobs have been grunt tech work. This is a think the actual title of "staff scientist" and I get a chance to do alot of R/D!!! Wish me luck. Its one of those multiple hour, multiple person interview from 9-1:30ish (phew thats a long time!). The bad part is this place is on the other side of the DC beltway from me (I live in Germantown, MD..they are in Chantilly, Va). So I think I need to leave 2 hours prior to schedule since I will be travelling at peak rush hour (bleah!).

6. Did you decide what route to take yet? |

I'm not sure if 28-15 would be better or not than the agony of 495. At Leesburg you could get on the Greenway for $4 to 28 or take more time to go up 7 and 28. I guess you'll have to get on 66 or 50? I'm not sure exactly where they are located. I just remembered I have a couple coworkers who come from Leesburg or Ashburn to Frederick who come up 15, I can check and see how the traffic is in the other direction once they get out of the lab.

10. I'm going to follow the directions I was given on the way down.. |
|
and its 495 to 66W to 50/Lee Jackson Hwy to someplace called Avion parkway. No idea how that relates to 15.

11. After talking to my coworkers that's probably a good idea |
|
15 would be a way to avoid 495 but the two who come up that way in the morning said the traffic going toward Leesburg is often stop and go, 7 is bad, and the Greenway is bad even though it costs almost $4. That's how I go to my parents on the weekend (118 to 28 to 15) but on weekends there's few problems. REALLY think about whether you want to drive that every day! (Assuming you're interested in the position.)

Do you have any good recommendations for biological statistics books? I took a bio stat class in college but I want to refresh my knowledge and expand it. I asked in the science forum last month and got a few recs but if there are any books specifically for biological statistics that you think are good I'd like to know. Thanks! :hi:

I need to ask you some questions. I just graduated from a pretty well-known college with a degree in Biology, and I can't even get an interview--what's up with that?
on edit:
((((vibes)))

Not to scare you but I worked in retail for a few years after college because of how hard it is to get experience..its really all area dependant. I happen to live in one of the biggest biotech areas in the country.......so now that I have oodles of experience I can at least get interviews...PM me if you want some specifics..if you read my second post you will see I am in a VERY good mood right now!!!

I had the same issue when I graduated (turtlensue and I met at our first post graduation jobs). When I got my next job only about 5% (major guesstimate) of the jobs were interested in unexperienced grads. It took me over 6 months to get my first job after graduating so luckily I had gone back to my previous summer/winter break job just to have $$ until then.
