5. I have AT&T as well.
I just got the LG CU400.

I looked up the customer reviews online and as near as I can tell, no one likes the Razr.

The LG CU400 got really good reviews, and I'm happy with it.

6. I have a trac phone (Idropped AT and T)
it cost $20.00 and I pay $20.00 every three months to buy the minutes. I only use it if I have to make long distance calls from work or if I need AAA or some other emergency.

If you are really broke, don't buy into the "beautiful" phones with the fancy plans for minutes just go basic and save your money for a nice camera or vacation.

Of course if you are a heavy phone talker it may not be worth it to get a trac phone.:hi:

8. Check out this site:
www.LetsTalk.com (recommended by Clark Howard)

They'll show you the best deals for the carrier of your choice. Some of the deals you actually make money on! We got two free RAZRs and made $100 to boot.

Caveat: You can usually get better deals going through a third-party (like letstalk) rather than directly to the carrier's store. But you have to wait a couple days since it comes via UPS.

MAJOR CAVEAT: If you really really have to have one tonight, do NOT go to a mall kiosk. Make sure it's an actual AT&T or TMobile or whatever store (not just a licensed dealer). Kiosk employees will lie to you and promise you all kinds of things.

They charged us $250 that it took me six months to get refunded (and only because I happened to get the phone number of the local TMobile sales rep, and called her every two weeks to follow up).

Why are you limited to AT&T?

12. Oh okay. The site covers that too
Even if you can't get the phone through LetsTalk (because of your brother's plan), you can at least see some family plans with good deals, and then ask AT&T if they have those phones or deals. You shouldn't have to pay more than about $79 or so for your phone.

Too bad he paid so much...lots of good free or cheap phones out there, even through AT&T.

9. I've always had Nokias from Cingular/AT&T and very good luck with them
You know, for all the bells & whistles you can get with these phones I hardly find paying $500 for an iPhone worth the money. I usually get whatever phone I can get free or near-free with the package and the current flip-phone nokie I've had great luck with it (even got some nice pictures at the Roger Waters concert using the camera on the phone).

I got my mother a Samsung and she's had it for 3 years now without a complaint - and that was a $25 phone she got with the package.
