Got a question about grease spatter as I get ready to make Sloppy Joes... |
|
Is there any way to keep grease from spattering while the ground beef is browning? I mean besides using the skillet cover or one of those grease screens. Anything that can be added to the beef to cut down on the mess?

You can reduce the heat and cook it VERRRRY slowly, but that's about it.

3. There's the problem. I gave my screen away. |

Haven't cooked ground beef in years because I hate the mess. But just got a hankering for Sloppy Joes today.

8. Cover it with a large plate or tin foil. |
|
I'm making Pizza Chili Cheese Dogs later on.
But I'll just cover the pan with the cover. ;)

5. buy super lean or have a lean cut ground by the meat guy |
|
then just use a touch of olive oil or maybe nothing if there is enough fat. I use a full lid for things like this all the time - meat is a little more grey than brown but you are going to dump sauce on it anyway.

6. Use the screen thing; use a deeper pan; soap is the only additive I can think of |
|
since it will break down the grease.
But that would be fuckin' gross.
One thing you can do, too, besides the higher wall pan (use a stock pot) and the screen, is to put a thin layer of soap all around the burner on the stove (not ON the burner, but on the surfaces that will get splattered). That will help make cleanup easier.
