Are there any TV shows that you like that are not main stream?
There is a new show on BBC America called "Gil Mayo Mysteries" that started a few weeks ago on Friday nights that I really like. http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/mayo/ I'm also a big "Midsomer Murder" fan that is shown on the Biography channel. http://www.geocities.com/midsomer_murders/

Another one I really liked was on the SciFi channel called "The Dresden Files". I was looking forward to it's second season, but I've found out the network has not decided if there will be a second season. (If you liked this show you can email the SciFi channel and request a second season -- feedback@scifi.com) http://www.scifi.com/dresden/

Does anyone remember the SciFi show called "Special Unit 2" that was on a few years ago? Weird but entertaining.

28. Love that show.
I didn't know it was "hip" to hate JFC. I think it's excellent. Besides, I'm not "hip" anyway.

3. I like the reruns of DaVinci's Inquest
That is not mainstream in the U.S. though I'm sure it was in Canada and elsewhere. Man, it's one of the best crime shows I've ever seen, totally makes CSI pale in comparison. Great writing. I watch that, and court tv shows. I like Haunting Evidence where the psychic profilers help the cops solve crimes and the one guy measures the paranormal activities in the area. I love Pscyhic Detectives, too. North Mission Road. Parco, P.I.. Forensic Files. The Investigators. Masterminds. I also love the one on discovery where they can't figure out what is wrong with the person, but I can't remember what that one is called. Mystery Illness or something.

I don't watch any current shows except the CSI (though I'm getting really tired of them) and Criminal Minds. Criminal Minds is good but it isn't realistic at all...the crimes and criminals they have on that show just are not very realistic, the crimes are way too elaborate and drawn out whereas in real life most serial killings are kill and dump crimes. I don't know how I got so hooked on Court tv, for a while I would just watch CSI (Vegas) and that was all; honestly I think it was when CSI started that stupid 'miniature killer' storyline that I just said enough, and when they had Catherine faux-date raped. Whenever one of the female characters on the show gets raped it means the writers are running out of ideas; it's a cheap plot device and completely lame, IMO.

5. I agree about CSI.
Criminal Minds was better the first season, but not so good this season.

My husband is a big "Dirty Jobs" fan. He watches it in the dinning room and I hear him laughing all the way through it.

9. I used to love that show when I had more cable
I really like the host of it, I saw him in a Ford commercial recently. That was very informative, and they also had a show about jobs in New York City that people do which I thought was cool. I miss cable, because I don't watch anything on the main channels, I can't stand it, except when I try to watch CSI, but lately I can't make myself care enough to get through the storyline. DaVinci's Inquest is just so much more gritty and realistic, it is really gripping. Plus, honestly I think CSI has jumped the shark, so to speak. When it first came out, people were grossed out by the gore, that was the gimmick of the show, the cadavers and the close up and internal demonstrations of the way people got injured, like the bullet traveling through the body tissues. Now, it's mundane, it's nothing new, and people are like 'ho hum'. So now they are involving the show's characters in the main plot-lines, which I really don't like. I bet Vegas wont' last another couple of years.

4. Carnivale
But I'm getting a little impatient for Season 3 to show up.

There's also that feeling that Carnivale could go the way of Twin Peaks, which basically collapsed under the weight of its own weirdness and chaos shortly after Laura's killer was identified.

11. I hate to break this to you,
but I heard Carnivale was canceled.
http://www.google.com/search?tab=nw&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&ned=us&q=Was%20Carnival%20on%20HBO%20cancelled%20

I don't know what is wrong with HBO. They seem to cancel shows that the public really wants to continue watching. My husband loved Deadwood, and it was canceled also.

16. That seems to be
the problem with shows that are not considered mainstream. We watch and enjoy them, and then they get canceled much too soon. The networks that put these shows on start to think that the money it costs to produce them just isn't worth it, so they go on to something else.

8. All of the shows I like
aren't mainstream. When I'm watching TV I want to be taken somewhere fantastical, I don't want to see a show about a real life setting. I LIVE in reality. Therefore 80 percent of my TV viewing tends to be of programs like Stargate, BSG, Heroes, etc.

27. it seems that none are on mainstream teevee
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 02:55 PM by ldf
and they are limited in length.

queer as folk
carnivale
deadwood
rome
tudors
dexter
weeds

of the above, the only one that disappointed was tudors. weeds is just... odd to even be on teevee.

i just watched the starter wife, just for debra messing. they could have ended it without the last two minutes, where she opts to renew with formerly homeless sam... chick movies must have a happy ending (i'm not a chick).

but, don't go by me. i have only watched a total of 15 minutes of sopranos...

edit for spelling

29. Several
I Shouldn't Be Alive on the Discovery Channel (seriously, best Discovery Channel show ever, IMHO. I haven't seen any new episodes for several weeks, though. I hope it hasn't been canceled).

Seconds From Disaster on the National Geographic channel (oddly fascinating)

Air Emergency on the National Geographic Channel (airplane crashes have always fascinated me for some reason)

Flight of the Conchords on HBO (hilarious)

Robin Hood on BBC America (although the season has ended)

I think all the other shows I watch are mainstream/pretty well-known.
