CONFESS!!! What great sacrifice would you make to get Bush out of office?
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 12:01 PM by LynneSin
Imagine that we've been told that the Bush Regime would step down from office and rescind every law they have made, but you have to make one great sacrifice of something that you hold near and dear to your heart. (we'll say it's non-violent sacrifice - ie: you give someone away and you would just never ever see them again, but that person would live a healthy life)

What great sacrifice would you make to get Bush out of office???!!!

24. Not People, ISSUES!!!!, Yes I realize I will be flamed

Issues are what have to be sacrificed in politics, not people. What ISSUES, would you be willing to sacrifice in order to get rural Americans to vote with Democrats.

In my opinion, Bush is driving America towards a precipice of tyranny. He does this partially by pressing "cultural" buttons of middle Americans.

Are liberals out there willing to sacrifice some of their "social" causes in favor of the greater economic cause. Do liberals realize that if Republicans keep dominating politics in this fashion, ALL of their issues are COMPLETELY lost.

* Are gays willing to give up on gay marriage? Keep in mind that a lot of right wingers would commit homosexuals to insitutions for "curing" in a heartbeat.

* Are gays willing to drop "sexual preference" anti-descrimination legislation. Keep in mind that your asking for protection against capricious workplace dissmissal. EVERYONE is subject to this. Such legislation is meaningless because an employer would simply make up some other reason to fire you. Why promote legislation that alienates voters and provides virtually NO tangible benefits?????

* Are Democrats willing to give up on partial birth abortion??? Yeah, doctors should be practicing medicine, not politicians. But if conservatives stay in power, evenentually Rowe vs Wade WILL, NO MIGHT, WILL BE OVERTURNED!!!! So this issue regarding a relatively small number of procedures may end up nullifying Roe vs Wade COMPLETELY.

* Are Democrats willing to propose bans on third trimester abortions (absent saving the life of the mother)???
Very few abortions are performed during this time anyway. It is the most objectionable because a third trimester baby can be born "premie" and survive without deformities. If conservatives keep power, the Republican judges will take away the right to ALL abortions.

* Are Democrats willing to give up on teaching evolution in schools???
After all, you don't fundamentalists teaching your kids religion in schools. Why is it OK to teach something that is so deeply offensive to religious folk in schools. Yes, one is science. But it isn't that hard of a science. Was it really that important in the first place??? Why not just leave the evolution issue to college and/or advanced optional high school cirriculum????
Otherwise, you are indoctrinating THEIR kids in something that we really can't prove in the same way as hard sciences.

* Are Democrats willing to give up on teaching "gay acceptance" cirriculum in schools?
Again, you don't want them teaching religion to YOUR kids. Isn't it unfair to teach cirriculum that directly defies their faith?
If Republicans stay in power, prayer will be back in schools and homosexual students will be expelled.

* Are Democrats willing to accept scaling back affirmative action?
After all, how do you know if it's working or not if you can't play around with it. If you scale it back and minority hiring goes WAY down, then you can point directly to evidence that America still hasn't come to term with it's race problem. The key is putting measurement in place.

* Are Democrats willing to concede that illegal immigrants should be SENT HOME???

People have a right to be offended when foreigners enter their community and change the local culture. That doesn't mean they are necessarily right. It means their is an anger and resentment there that has to be acknowledged.

The truth is that we are having serious problem with unemployment in this nation. Any analysis of employment will yield the old rule of supply and demand. It's no wonder that Republicans LOVE illegal immigrants.

It's not inhumane to suggest that foreigners respect America's sovereign laws. We cannot make foreigners rich by making ourselves poor. If Democrats can see through the scam and oppose WTO, we can also see through the "they do the jobs that Americans don't want to" BS.

-----------------

These are all issues that ruffle the feathers of middle America. These issues are easy cannon fodder. Why cling to them so religiously??? Aren't we being just like those inflexible "fundamentalits"??? Aren't we throwing it all away for the sake of a few fringe issues.

Americans are fooled by these jokers on the right. And Democrats go right along with it by not realizing that Americans have the RIGHT to be outraged by social issues. They are citizens and they express that right by voting Republican. In doing so they sacrifice their own economic best interests.

Who's fault is that. Is it the voters who cannot see through Republican lies. Or is it the Democrats who can't give them a platform that isn't offensive to their sensibilities.

Ultimately, the great problem is that our static two sided political system that forces people to line up on teams and throw stones at the other sides. It would be great to have Greens in liberal states that were social liberals and economic progressives. In the Midwest you could have a "Blue" party that was socially conservative and economically progressive.

Then their would be no doubt who would win and what issues would carry the day. Then people could truly speak their mind. Lefties could express their social issues without jeapordizing the future of our nation by empowering these right wing assholes.

But we should all remember, that there are greater issues at stake this election. Don't give up your future for the sake of demanding EVERYTHING in the next two years. If the Reich wing keeps winning, you will lose EVERYTHING including your freedom. Isn't it worth giving up on some of these issues and focusing on the ones that 80% of the American people can AGREE on????
