1. Here's a couple of mine...
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away...Billy Joel, Lullabye...

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife baby...
edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
through the middle of my soul...The Boss...

5. well, I hear you went up to Saratoga, and your horse naturally won
then you flew your Lear Jet up to Nova Scotia
to see the total eclipse of the sun
You're where you should be all the time
and when you're not, you're with
some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend...

I know you said line but that whole stanza is amazing.

32. Here's another Van Morrison lyric from Tupelo Honey
You can’t stop us on the road to freedom
You can’t keep us ’cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
She’s an angel of the first degree
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

8. This verse from "Sweet Jane"...
Some people, they like to go out dancing,
And other peoples, they have to work.
And there's even some evil mothers,
Well they're gonna tell you that everything is just dirt.
Y'know that, women, never really faint,
And that villains always blink their eyes, woo!
And that, y'know, children are the only ones who blush!
And that, life is, just to die!
And, everyone who ever had a heart, oh,
That wouldn't turn around and break it.
And anyone who ever played a part, whoa,
And wouldn't turn around and hate it!

and there are many more brilliant lyrics by Mr Lou Reed

No, not one of the huge Van Halen hits, but this is great anyway...

Till I finally made it
Life was kinda hit or miss
But after I made it
Life was "Take a hit of this"
And I'd love to talk philosophy
But I've gotta take a piss
Man, that philosophy runs right through ya

14. Not a big fan of Van Hagar
(speaking of Van Halen)

but I really like this line

"You don't have to die and go to heaven
or stick around to be born again
just tune in to what this place has got to offer
'cuz we may never be here again."

There are better songs and better lyrics, but few of them are what I'd call "pop."

Of course, then again, there's THESE lyrics, from one of my favorite pop artists.

"What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine."

Who else knows who THAT is?

38. Yup...
Indeed it is.

She's my favorite pop artist. Not quite the best singer in pop, an award that, in my opinion, goes to Christina Aguilera, but certainly better than the rest of the crop besides maybe Kelly Clarkson. Pink, however, is far more socially aware than most seem to be.

She's way more than fluff n' stuff. Her voice may not be the best but the emotion in it is far more genuine than most. That's what makes music touch me.

I wasn't thrilled by her third album at first (never really liked her 1st) but it grew on me over time. She's constantly willing to change up her style and really can't be pegged very well. One thing you don't get from Pink is the same ol' same ol' stuff.

20. I can't pick just one line from this song
But i love it..Tower of song leonard Cohen

Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And Im crazy for love but Im not coming on
Im just paying my rent every day
Oh in the tower of song

I said to hank williams: how lonely does it get?
Hank williams hasnt answered yet
But I hear him coughing all night long
A hundred floors above me
In the tower of song

I was born like this, I had no choice
I was born with the gift of a golden voice
And twenty-seven angels from the great beyond
They tied me to this table right here
In the tower of song

So you can stick your little pins in that voodoo doll
Im very sorry, baby, doesnt look like me at all
Im standing by the window where the light is strong
Ah they dont let a woman kill you
Not in the tower of song

Now you can say that Ive grown bitter but of this you may be sure
The rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor
And theres a mighty judgement coming, but I may be wrong
You see, you hear these funny voices
In the tower of song

I see you standing on the other side
I dont know how the river got so wide
I loved you baby, way back when
And all the bridges are burning that we might have crossed
But I feel so close to everything that we lost
Well never have to lose it again

Now I bid you farewell, I dont know when Ill be back
There moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track
But youll be hearing from me baby, long after Im gone
Ill be speaking to you sweetly
From a window in the tower of song
Yeah my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And Im crazy for love but Im not coming on
Im just paying my rent every day
Oh in the tower of song

enough to kick out the jams

elvis is english and climbs the hills
can't tell the bullshit from the lies

we were down on our knees,
praying at the bus stop

same old game in brand new drag
comes sweeping into view

blue skies above, sun on your arms
strength in your stride
and hope, in those squeaky clean eyes

i'll steal for it
i'll lie for it
i'll **** you up *** *** for it
i'll even go to jail for it
just gimme dope
gimme dope money
so i can bang it up

i am an antichrist
i am an anarchist

Yeah, they've bargained their virtue
Their goodness all gone
For a few dirty coins
Well he just can't go on
Throws his nose to the sky
And he aims it up above
And he pisses like I cry
On the unfaithful love

though the idea of conversion
is said to be
the union of christ
and his bride, the christian

he's crashing out with sylvian
the bureau supply for aging men
with snorting head, he gazes to the shore
where once had raged a sea that rages no more
like the video films we saw

30. Here are two of mine
A Case of You - Joni Mitchell the entire song is beautiful to me

Just before our love got lost you said
"I am as constant as a northern star"
And I said "Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar"

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet

Oh I could drink a case of you darling
Still I'd be on my feet
oh I would still be on my feet

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid

I remember that time you told me you said
"Love is touching souls"
Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet

Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet

I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said
"Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed"

Oh but you are in my blood
You're my holy wine
You're so bitter, bitter and so sweet

Oh, I could drink a case of you darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet

Calling All Angels - Jane Siberry

a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness the body oh the heaviness settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it's one foot then the other as you step out onto the road
how much weight? how much weight?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times before it's too late?

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're cryin' and we're hurtin'
and we're not sure why...

and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
it's almost...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you'd finally understand what this all means

but if you could...do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you'd miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
callin' all angels
callin' all angels
we're tryin'
we're hopin'
we're hurtin'
we're lovin'
we're cryin'
we're callin'
'cause we're not sure how this goes

34. Some JT:
"Walking Man" (from '74)

Moving in silent desperation,
Keeping an eye on the holy land.
A hypothetical destination--
Say, who is this waliking man?

Well, the leaves have come to turning,
And the goose has gone to fly,
And bridges are for buning,
So don't you let that yearning
Pass you by.
Walking man....walking man walks.
Well, any other man stops and talks,
But the walking man walks.

Well, the frost is on the pumpkin,
And the hay is in the barn,
An' Pappy's come to rambling on,
Stumbling around drunk
Down on the farm.

And the walking man walks.
Doesn't know nothing at all....
Any other man stops and talks,
But the walking man walks on by.
Walk on by...

Most everybody's got seeds to sow.
It ain't always easy for a weed to grow, oh no,
So he don't hoe the row for no one.
Oh, for sure, he's always missing,
And something is never quite right...
Ah, but who would want to listen to you,
Kissing his existence good night?

Walking man, walk on by my door.
Well, any other man stops and talks,
But not the walking man.
He's the walking man,
Born to walk.
Walk on, walking man.
Well now, would he have wings to fly?
Would he be free,
Golden wings against the sky?
Walking man, walk on by.
So long, walking man, so long.

46. A few that popped into my head:
"I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular"
(How Soon is Now? -- The Smiths)

I like the moon imagery from Elliott Smith's "Coming Up Roses":

"The moon is a sickle cell
It'll kill you in time"

and

"Your cold white brother alive in your blood
Spinning in the night sky
While the moon does its division you're buried below
And you're coming up roses everywhere you go"

and, more moon/celestial imagery (from Echo and the Bunnymen's "Killing Moon")

"In starlit nights I saw you
So cruelly you kissed me
Your lips a magic world
Your sky all hung with jewels...
The killing moon
Will come too soon"
