Remember - giant rising moon tonight
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/27jun_moonillusion.htm

due to the "moon illusion". The rising moon, just opposite the setting sun, will appear HUGE tonight.

1. I saw this last night...
at the end of the road i was driving down i saw what looked like the moon. It was GIGANTIC. It was the width of the road from our perspective. If you hadn't posted this i would have just chalked it up to one of those weird unexplainables.

6. My dear MonkeyFunk!
I am looking forward to seeing it!

Not sure what time it rises here, but I'll have my eyes looking!

I wish I had the proper equipment so I could take a picture of it right after moonrise...

8. Tried to get it last night
but when I took the pic, it just looked like a little white pea hanging in the sky, instead of that giant orb that makes you wanna run through the woods naked.

Well, me anyway. :P

(that pic is in the flirt thread. fyi) If you figure out a way to get that effect, tell me what it is!

12. Darn, no moon tonight, too many clouds. But I saw bats!
There were several swooping around the trees. I haven't noticed any around here in a long time. I hope they're eating lots of mosquitoes. We've had so much rain lately that you can't sit outside without being swarmed.

14. Too much rain here
and is supposed to rain for another 20 hours so I'll miss it.

This sucks. My daughter and I would normally be on the roof with the telescope.

16. Couldn't see it outside my house, so we drove around looking for it.
We drove quite a bit before we found it. (Either houses or trees blocking the view.) We finally saw it, but we had to look through a veil of clouds to see it and it wasn't quite as low as it had been at peak viewing time. But I have seen one of those huge low moons before. I remember that I was in my car and suddenly this extremely huge, low moon was up ahead. It almost seemed like I was going to drive right into the moon. That was so cool.

They will be one degree apart tomorrow night.

The moon has been so bright we could read by it through the window.
