2. In New York? Good Luck...!
You may have to stay as far out as Jersey if you're looking for "cheap" hotel rates...

5. Jersey is probably where you want to stay if you think about it.
They're very likely to have the "free speech (i.e. 'protest') zone" at least that far away.

No point in staying downtown and have to commute out to the only approved protest spot over in the Meadowlands.

4. Jersey will be less expensive
Not cheap unless you want to sleep with the roaches. Course then you have to rent a car and either drive into the city or to a train station. You could look around Newark/Newark Airport. Maybe find something reasonable. At least you have some transportation options (shuttles, train) from there.

6. If you don't find one
feel free to ask about coming to stay with some of us who live here.

I've already made the offer for people to come and stay at my place. I have room for at least 4 friendly people (with one taker already).

Come on, it'll be fun. :)

But, if you really want a hotel room to yourselves, well that makes sense too. I hope you can find one.

7. You might try this one in Greenwich Village. . .

It's like a European-style pension, with shared baths.
It's also on a rather quiet street in Greenwich Village. I think they also serve continental breakfast, but there are lots of good small healthy-food places to eat in that area.

But check for rooms availablity.

Also, you should get yourself a Metrocard for subway/bus fare.

8. A bit off topic.
Are you really ready for it. Check out what just happened in Miami. I think NYC could be evem worse. Please be prepared. Good luck and God bless.

10. I can't go, so
I play to stay at home by the phone. Anyone who goes can give me their cell phone numbers and I'll give them my number. If anyone gets into trouble or doesn't check in by a certain time I can start calling the ACLU or whomever else has intervention people on standby.

My health and disabilty prevent me from going anyplace as crowded and crazy as the protests are going to be, so I might as well be useful backup.

Anybody have any idea how many of us live in NYC?
