Ok, I know you've gone over it 100 times, but
can someone please explain again how to post pictures? Include the names of free hosting services, if you can. Thanks!

As a reward, you will get the first glimpse of my new sig line!

2. 100 percent foolproof way to post pictures

  • if you have not already done so, purchase a router such as a Linksys and set it to use DHCP for its address and to host DHCP
  • move your pc behind the router (figuratively) - it will get a new IP in the 192.168 range from the router's DHCP
  • obtain an old computer from a pawn shop - 100 Mhz is plenty fast
  • install linux, no security (unless you really know what you're doing), let it get its IP address from the router (DHCP) - it will get something in the 192.168.1.1 range - type ipconfig -a to find out what it is
  • configure Apache to run on a port other than 80 eg. 8080
  • create an images directory under htdocs - put your images there
  • configure your router to accept requests on your Apache port (eg. 8080) and pass them through to your linux computer

This gives you complete control over what happens with your pictures.

4. You're joking, right?
Do you think anyone who understands a single line of that would need to ask how to post pictures?

Reminds me of Steve Martin's "How You Can Make A Million Dollars And Never Pay Taxes" routine.

He starts with, "Okay first - get a million dollars..."
