It's either that, or the fact that Maineiac has a date. The latter, probably. Sigh. Jes' bitchin'.

2. Let me ask you something.
Do you think there's a problem in the U.S. with the "feminization" of our men? Be honest now...

28. I don't know if it is just the U.S.
I think it is deeper than "feminization" I think that our ancestors had it right in terms of dealing with archetypal images and rituals for becoming men. What do men typically pass on to their male offspring today? Too often it is fear, loathing of other men, the need for the symbolic mother, and if that means that men are "feminized" (hadn't thought of it in those terms) then they might be.

I think that too often men are absent (not physically as much as emotionally) from their son's lives and their is no coming of age ritual. (Oh what, some dad buys his son a prostitute? :eyes: Or gets him drunk? :eyes: I'm talking about passing on wisdom, a feeling of becoming a man)

Often boys have no men in their lives, which can be remedied through things like boys clubs, or scouts, but then, from my own personal experience there, one has to be aware that not all men who go into those things are there to "help" boys, some are there to hurt them. I was hurt there by a scoutmaster. That added to the problems that go with trying to separate and individuate as a man.

34. Wow. An answer that makes sense.
Jeebus, I need to - think this through.

You are so intelligent and perhaps you underestimate the degree to which you have developed into the man/person you imagined you could be. Just my two cents'.

13. But tonight is bad babysitting, I'm very stressed out.
Is it cool if I send you a PM.. I just need to think loudly and it would be nice if someone would listen. Today has been insane and it isn't even close to coming to a conclusion.

11. I've done kiddie movie duty for the last couple of days.
The boys are at their fathers' place; my daughter is upstairs thinking I don't know she's talking on her cellphone.

I saw the recent pic of the kids; Retroboy has a haircut. Damn but they're cute (or haven't I mentioned it? :P )

And they are cute, and they know it. GAH! Can I skip the teen years?

18. No my dear. If I must go through them, then you must too.
It's pretty scary. Scarier than I expected, considering that I did almost every horrible thing imaginable as a young person.

As for no input, you may have missed the boat on the hair. It's what your children learn by being with you that's important, and that will last. Don't you worry about that.

Pass the smoke, wouldja?

The guy. He's "punishing" me tonight for speaking my mind; that is, for telling him that I expect a person of intelligence to be willing to think about ideas both old and new, and adjust to current facts. It didn't go over well. V. repuke, was my immediate thought. I can't tell if we're doomed because of preconceptions, or doomed because it's the nature of the republican to resent being forced to think. I'm expecting an accusatory email before the night is out.

I know. Y'all keep telling me so. The thing is, he keeps telling me one thing, and then doing another. If/when this fails, no more republicans, as the Deity is my witness. And thanks, mainegreen, for asking!
