Poll question: Do you have anyone on ignore?
Some people use the function, some don't.

Some of us have found it useful, however.

I don't know why, but ever since I started using the ignore function, I've never noticed anyone on my ignore list confronting me at all any more.

So, do you use this function? And if so, how much?

None.

But what's worse is those who take advantage of the times when DU can't enforce those regulations during the "DEFCON" phases. They're the worst.

30. We can get away with stuff during DEFCON?
Wow! I didn't know that!

What can we get away with? I been missing out on opportunities!

(never mind - just kidding)

My "ignore count" is zero, though there have been a few that came close. I figure I can ignore them the old fashioned way - by ignoring them.

82. Yup.
I had at one time a few people on PM ignore and one of them chose the DEFCON opportunity to get in touch with me. Rather childish of them, but not out of character from what I had observed of their previous behavior.

25. i used to say that too
but then there was this situation in another forum here at du that drove me to distraction and i just ignored the people that were posting there (all of them new and challenging the basis of the forum) and low and behold, i could prolly take them off, but i have not had any desire to because i have felt such peace since taking them off when they were making me, or rather i allowed them to push my buttons.

that's the only reason i've really ever kept anyone on ignore. I don't think i have any lounge people on ignore, (or regulars that is) and as for GD, I rarely go there and when i do i expect that whatever i post will be agreed with by some and challenged by others, that is the nature of GD these days and if I want a place that agrees with me, i should start my own web site and only allow my minions access

No one who regularly posts in the Lounge is on my ignore list.

My list derives from GD posters. For some reason GD tends to attract more obnoxious people than other forums.

One day I managed to add over a dozen people as a result of reading one GD thread. I didn't even have to post there. There was a group of tag-team a-holes with a tiresome and rancid agenda stinking up the place insulting everyone else's intelligence.

If I had posted this poll on GD I imagine a lot of "ignored"s would show up in the thread.

I don't use it except for people who are really getting on my nerves, and I use it as a vacation from them.

Not many have done that to me. Mainly arguing with me about some deeply held personal belief and I just refuse to argue so ignore works better. I've had some people pm me to say "check this out" and a link to a thread and I go and it says you have this person on ignore so I am relieved actually that I don't have to read what they are saying if it upsetting someone enough to pm me about it then I would rather not get entangled with that.

I tried REALLY hard to have nobody but after seeing a couple of people say the same crap over and over and over again, I had to do it, especially since these self same jerks hijacked a couple of my threads and really ticked me off. So in order to spare my temper, I did it. Eh, they just make the same points no matter what so its not worth my time, but yes I would STILL get mad if I saw it, so what does that say about me?:)

The kind who seem obliged to take a crap in whatever thread they post in, even if it's about a DUer whose mother just died. I can only take so many strident attempts to turn whatever the subject happens to be their own favorite agendas before it annoys the snot out of me. I find my blood pressure is much better since I learned to use "ignore".

92. And I just added two more
Honestly, I don't know what's happening here lately. Some people apparently can't help posting flame-bait, and others are getting into the "Did not!" "Did so!" "I know you are, but what am I?" type of arguments that I started finding tedious in the fourth grade.

I'll probably keep them on "ignore" for just a few days, and hope that an outbreak of civility intervenes. Or that the new moderators get past the steep learning curve.

That person was soooo filled with hate that I am sure he must work for donald rumsfeld...I think he may actually be donald rumsfeld in disguise. In either case his words to our fellow DUers so offended me that I felt a strong need to place him on ignore. Perhaps I should check to see if he has been TSed...they would toss donald rumsfeld out wouldn't they? On edit: Nope he is still with us...I guess that ignore feature works pretty well as I have not been even close to as offended as I was by this moran since the day I placed him on ignore...I'll bet he is a popular person on other ignore lists.

34. I got to 40 and stopped counting.
I just don't see the need to get my blood pressure up or deal with the temptation of posting something that's against the rules.

I know a lot of people would say that I'm too quick to put people on ignore and use it too much, but I don't know - once in LOTRO we were grouped with someone who couldn't play very well and then at the last boss he rolled need on a shield he couldn't use and then mapped out. So I tried to put him on my ignore list, but it turned out he was already there. So now whenever the leader of the group invites someone I don't know I check my ignore list for them.

I think you can make a pretty good guess about someone's character by what they post or say in chat.

You did wrong. You hurt people who called you a friend when they were very emotionally vulnerable. You betrayed a confidence. You still won't own up to it and offer a real apology.

83. I apologized repeatedly when I found out about it.
You may remember, that was one of those weekends I spent heavily medicated because of pain. That whole situation caught me by surprise a few days later, and I immediately apologized for anything personal I might have said.

Obviously, my apology didn't mean anything to anyone. I got dumped on by a lot of people. Most of all by you.

I still think the whole situation was blown up out of almost nothing, and I'm the one who got hurt by it.

I fail to see how I could have dumped on you about this situation when I haven't typed a syllable your direction in months and only am now because you brought it up for some reason I can't fathom.

I'm not going to argue with you about it. I don't have any ill will toward you, I simply can't trust you any more. I wish that weren't true, but it is.

58. No, because I have had people talking trash about me, and I wouln't have known with ignore on.
That's the main reason. I suppose I could use it for a full-on troll, but they get banned eventually anyway.

Besides, I don't really get the concept of ignoring certain posters just because I might disagree with them.

I might choose to hide threads with topics I don't care about - Paris Hilton or Orlando Bloom or something...

I find that I tolerate people here a lot better than I do on other boards, so I give people every chance before I banish them to Ignoreland. I have two on my Ignore list right now, because (quite frankly) I got tired of their constant contentiousness and bullshit, and life is just too short to put up with it.

117. Not being sarcastic
I have tried using facts.
I have tried being polite.
I have tried ignoring people who I disagree with.

Guess what.None of that works
The most effective means I have found is to get right in peoples faces screaming and hollering.
That gets their attention.
That lets them know I am serious.
That shuts them up when they start spewing bullshit out of their face.

It also gives those too timid to speak out courage to voice their opinion also.

If you don't like it,be a coward and put me on ignore.I really don't give a fuck.
I am not in this to make friends.I am not doing what I do to get rich or famous.
I am doing this to save my country.

Like someone said:
This ain't no party.
This ain't no disco
And I ain't fooling around.

123. I've tried your method with the obnoxious ones,
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 07:02 PM by Seabiscuit
and every time I do it, without fail, the asshole whines to the mods and gets my post deleted.

Rather than whine to the mods myself, and rather than get an even worse rep with the mods, I now simply put the obnoxious assholes on "ignore".

Now you can call people *like* me a "coward" all you want, I don't give a shit. But when you start getting personal about it, I'll just put you on "ignore" rather than feign some macho attitude and scream and holler in your face for attention. I don't buy the analogy of doing that "to save my country" - it's not only ridiculous on its face, it wrongly smears those of us who use the "ignore" button as some kind of quisling traitors to our country. According to this poll, that would include 52% of us DU'ers.

Being liked by everyone isn't a goal of mine, so it doesn't matter all that much to me. I'm opinionated, and I'm always right, and that just bothers some people ;)

The way I see it, the Ignore button is counterproductive. If you're right and the person you want to ignore is wrong, you should try to correct them. Hiding from them simply facilitiates misunderstanding.

It's not what they post so much as the way they post. One who has a particular quirk that I just found annoying, or someone that just posted unreadable postings and was posting a lot, someone else who posted only the same thing about one thing.

It's not that much worth it, but if I find I know the name and skip them, and take the time, I see the Deleted note in the thread. Which, with that, makes it almost not much worth it.

for a long time, i was one of the smug ones proud of the fact that i never put anyone on ignore aside from one person who was eventually banned (and even i felt guilty and un-ignored him after a week)...

but a couple of weeks ago, in a fit of rage, i finally put a second person on ignore---god to the motherfuckin' DAMN it felt good...i when i did that, then I had to ignore his tag-team shill, who always pops up to defend him on threads where he is getting ROASTED...

after that, there was no turning back...i then ignored a few trolls, and a few more i have a longstanding grudge against....that equals 10 in total, and i don't miss them at all...

not only that, for the first time i use the 'hide thread' function as well

(maybe i'll have an un-ignore amnesty day for new year's or something)

btw...who was that clown that once bragged his ignore list was 600 and growing??
