Our sweet little Bonnie is crossing the Rainbow Bridge today...
Here's a picture of our beautiful little girl:

Unfortunately, ginbarn and I have agreed that we need to put her down today. She's developed lumbar spondylosis, which has affected her ability to use her back legs to walk. But now she's developing a problem with her front legs as well, and she has a growing mass in her chest that appears cancerous. Pain medicine no longer has any effect on her.

We're taking Bonnie up to the veterinarian in about an hour for her to begin her journey. We just don't want our baby girl to suffer anymore, but this is still very hard for both of us.

4. so sorry to hear this. and what a beautiful kitty .
My old Scamp who was 17 when she crossed will be there too, and she will probably huff and puff about some new cat on her turf, old grumpus that she was. My thoughts are with you

How is Ginbarn doing, anyway?

9. ginbarn's doing fine...
She has a couple of broken ribs that are still healing, and there's the pre-multiple myeloma that she's still dealing with, but for now she's doing fairly well.

That picture of Bonnie, beautiful as it is, doesn't do her justice - it failed to capture her uber-fluffy racoon tail! But I'm sure she's looking forward to meeting Scamp.

6. Although your heart
is aching, you know that Bonnie is ready to cross the bridge.

Try to keep busy, and leave some memories of her behind. My dear cat passed away on December 22nd, and I still have her cat dish set out.

16. I appreciate it greatly
We've lost all of our beloved parakeets (Petey, Lady, and Albert) over the past few years, but we've had Bonnie longer than we've had the keets, so it's hitting us a little harder.

We still have our old tuxedo smooth-hair Axl and our little cockatiel Piper, so they can help comfort us, too.

21. Thank you, everyone
It's time for me to sign off and make the final preparations for ginbarn and I to take Bonnie to the vet.

I should mention here that ginbarn rescued Bonnie from the streets in 1994. She was a scared little kitty back then, sopping wet from the rain and showing signs of physical abuse from whomever dumped her in the first place. When ginbarn sat down on the curb, Bonnie crawled right into her lap, and she's been a happy and well cared for part of our family ever since.

She also had a severe problem with roundworms with ginbarn first found her, and the vet told her that Bonnie might only live for five or six years. She managed to stretch it to 13 years, so every day with Bonnie was a little blessing in itself.

Will try to share more after we come back home. It'll be hard for a while, though.

Again, thank you.

Bonnie's on the Rainbow Bridge now, and she'll never suffer nor want for anything again.

It was a very difficult and emotional time for both of us, but we're slowly healing.

An extra-special Thank You to everyone who showed their support for ginbarn and I today.

She managed to live longer than her vet predicted - he gave Bonnie 5-6 years, and she lived for about 13 years instead. All of it with yummy food, clean water, and lots of love and attention.

You knew it was all about Bonnie, your feelings took a back seat to what was best for her. I am going to be sending a good friend to the bridge soon, I cry every time I think about it but when its time I will help her leave no matter how it makes me feel.
