Rhubarb pie! Is there anything better, really?

And I rarely have to share, best of all worlds.

1. Straight rhubarb,
or with strawberries?

Warm, with ice cream?

3. Nope! I love it so much I gave it up when my mother died.

It was my favorite pie, and she was a hella pie baker - her rhubarb pie was the best I've ever had. Fucking brilliant and wonderful.

It was my very favorite thing of everything she made, and my one constant request.

So in honor of her, I refuse to eat anyone else's.

I miss it. I love rhubarb, and rhubarb crisp, while wonderful, isn't quite the same.

And don't even get me started on the strawberry-rhubarb pie abomination. :grr:

15. You need to figure out what your mother did, and do it yourself.

4. rhubarb is the food of the gods
I never had it until I got married 21 years ago--my MIL grows it in her backyard and always is making something with rhubarb. Now we have a descendent of her ancient rhubarb plant in our backyard...heaven on earth!

13. THAT, my friend, is an abomination!!
Wouldn't see that shit in Wisconsin, I can tell you. Not by any legitimate baker, anyway.

12. I haven't had it since I was a child
It grew around my aunt's house and we'd eat it raw but it was best in pie, of course. I remember it fondly whenever I hear the Prairie Home Companion broadcast.

17. I have seen pictures of rhubarb but what does it taste like?
Is it sweet?
Down here it is pecan pie or sweet potato pie. Not sure I have ever seen rhubarb pie on a menu.

A family friend hooked us up with some. It was the first slice I can recall eating in more than 30 years. And it was very tasty.
