Name someone at least partly famous who is missed by the world
My first thought is an adventurer and photographer named Galen Rowell. Galen and his wife were in a plane accident in 2002 and they both perished along with the pilot and one other. Galen was not quite 62.

If you Google him, you will find many beautiful and memorable photographs of his work. He was once described as the Ansel Adams of color photography, and even Adams himself said once that Rowell was his most likely successor.

Rowell was also a philanthropist, and belonged to many charities which helped preserve and were activists for worthwhile groups, including FreeTibet.

We need more artists--and yes, people, like Galen Rowell.

2. I'd like to publicly apologize for that. Please don't let it kill the thread.
I know that I've overstepped the bounds of good taste and I throw myself on the mercy of the Lounge.

Wait, maybe that's not a good idea.

3. I remember reading about that accident...
I'll have to check out his work tomorrow...

I found an author I really like not too long ago, her name is Anne George. She's written some lovely poetry as well as a very funny series of mysteries; she died in 2001 - complications from heart surgery. She really had this very kind, compassionate voice, with a lot of wry humor stuck in there. I think she'd have been a great friend.

4. I have always loved Galen Rowell's photographs. But many of them give me vertigo.

The ones where he climbed along with world-class rock climbers and took pictures of them in precarious situations - I can barely look at them without feeling like I'm up there too, and I immediately feel uncomfortable. I guess that's a testament to the greatness of his work. You feel like you are actually there, not just looking at a picture.
