Gardeners: Trimming a holly question. |
|
I have a 10' Foster holly at the corner of my house. Until this year there was a big yew that was infringing upon the bottom of it so there are no branches on one side at the bottom. I have been trying to figure out how I am going to trim this bush since it needs a trimming. I saw a house recently where they had holly bushes and they had trimmed off all the branches of the first 5' or so and left the top so that it looked like a tree. It actually looked kinda cool. I have a brick planting bed around this holly so I would be able to plant under it.
My question is would this hurt the tree in any way and what time of year should I trim it?
