Crapness. Mr. At Last has viral meningitis.
Six days of temps around 104 degrees, chills, headache, etc.

He isn't getting worse, thank goodness, but he isn't getting better either and the ER docs said it'll take 10 days to get over it. He's miserable, I'm pooped.

If you can spare a little of that famous DU love, we'd surely appreciate it.

Thanks.

when things were much worse!

This is just so tiring on all of us.

7. Having been through that myself, he has my utmost sympathy.
Headaches so bad it felt like a sledgehammer hitting me when I blinked my eyes.

I hope he gets over this soon, so many many good vibes coming his way.

11. Question, if you don't mind?
Docs are saying 10 days to recover, everything I've read says the same, and he has shown no improvement, but as I say, he isn't getting worse (thank goodness!).

Did you incrementally improve or noticed a vast improvement at once? It's really puzzling me.

Mods--not seeking medical advice; just another's experience because it's very bewildering!

Thanks in advance. I'm going to bed now and hope we can all get some rest.

14. I remember that I was really sick for over a week, and then started
getting better. It was like I was stuck in the "sick zone" for that length of time, and then things got better. First thing I noticed was that the headache started fading noticeably, and within a couple of days, I felt so very much better.

One of my brothers got it just before I did, so my poor mom had to keep watch over both of us. He pretty much went through the same course as I did.

It's been many years since I had it, but I seem to remember the doctor saying it pretty much would need to run its course.

Again, I hope your husband starts feeling better soon, and though this is small comfort, it IS a good thing he hasn't gotten worse.

17. A little light, thank you! He woke up again this morning with that horrible
headache, just as you descibe it.

This will be day 7 so we're hoping to see him feeling a little better tomorrow. Another doctor's appointment today although I'm not sure what good it will do.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't know anyone who's aver had it in our social circle. I love the internets for that very reason!

26. I don't recall having to go back to the doc, though as I said, it was
many years ago, and mostly what I remember from that time is the headache. Yeah, the doc may not be able to do anything, but going can't hurt (uh, no pun intended there), if for nothing else than to make absolutely sure nothing has gotten worse.

I hope the docs were being pessimistic and that instead he feels at least a little better each day.

21. Been there...no fun!
It takes a long time to get over and quite a while to get your strength back. I was in the hospital 5 days and it was weeks before I was close to normal again.

I hate to hear of anyone going thru it because it's so freaking miserable! My sympathies to him and I hope he feels better soon.

24. For what it's worth...
I've been told that viral meningitis is actually less severe than bacterial meningitis. A friend of ours was hospitalized with viral meningitis a few weeks ago while she was about eight months pregnant. Both she and the baby are fine.
