1. My dear wildhorses...
I'd say they're weeds....

Useful, but still weeds...

Of course they're edible, and you can make dandelion wine from them too...

But I still say...WEEDS!

And he and his army of guys descend on my yard, clipping, weeding, shaping and etc!

When they're done, I am out some bucks....and the yard shines!

I have them come probably 4 or 5 times a year......

That's how, sweetie!

I was really poor and didn't own a camera. But I could have got a disposable, huh?

I'm six foot seven and these things towered over me. We were on the sunny side of Bernal Hill, where there used to be farms up until the 60s. So I guess it was just an amazing place to grow stuff--beautiful gardens all up and down the street.

on edit: Wow--I guess I could've got in the World Records!

World's tallest dandelion?
The Lowell Sun
Article Last Updated: 06/24/2007 06:40:08 AM EDT

HAMPSTEAD, N.H. (AP) -- It's not something people usually prize -- a giant dandelion. But the Tripodi family of Hampstead believes the 49-inch giant dug up from a pool deck is a world record-holder. It began on a car trip, when 13-year-old Nick Tripodi was flipping through the Guinness Book of World Records and spotted the record for a 39-inch tall dandelion in Sweden. Nick, the oldest of the three Tripodi brothers, remembered the big weed growing at home. "I just knew the dandelion growing on our pool deck was definitely more than 39 inches," he said. Tammy Tripodi, the boys' mother, dug the dandelion up when it started to droop. It measured 49 inches. The Tripodis sent the information to London, where the record book is based. The next stage requires two officials to examine the dandelion to confirm the measurement.

thanks for the link.

56. A weed is a plant growing in the wrong place.
Our lawn is filled with dandelions because the spousal unit keeps bees. Here in the north dandies are one of the first nectar and pollen bearing flowers to bloom. As noted on another thread they are a salvation and feast for our principal pollinators. I'll pull them out of the flower beds, otherwise they're more than welcome.

33. Yessss.......
...it's gonna' be a long haul over time, though. I tried a "surge" technique by committing my daughters and wife to the struggle this past spring, but the damn things seem to be multiplying...

I've tried to get my lawn to take responsibility for itself and uproot the buggers on its own, but the lawn seems incapable of getting its act together on this matter...I'm not sure if it is basic incompetence, corruption, or infiltration of the lawn by dandelions posing as dichondra...

I expect I'll have to maintain a strong presence on my front lawn for the foreseeable future...
