Poll question: Speaking of dying, and drying.... |
|
How do you want your body disposed of when you die? Not to be morbid, but I just read an article about a 'green' burial preserve near Westminster, South Carolina (northwestern part of state) where you or your ashes can be buried in a cardboard or simple pine box, no embalming, no big headstones (but it seems small flat in-ground plaques are OK). The preserve is in a greater nature preserve with hiking trails, etc. I always thought I'd be cremated and flung into the wind from a sailboat or something (haven't really worked it all out yet), but I've also thought it might be nice to have a place to be visited if anyone ever so desired to visit 'me' after I have died, so long as it wasn't one of the huge, sterile, heavily- manicured-lawn (with nasty pesticides), commercial cemeteries.
Anyway. Just curious. :hi:

4. There's a new version of cremation now, as well... |
|
They freeze-dry the body, way below zero, and then vibrate it to dust. I want the regular old cremation, though. I HATE the cold! And I think I'd like my ashes dumped into a hole, and a sapling planted on top of them. I'll be part of that tree for a lot longer than anyone who knows me will be alive, so it would be a great "marker" for anyone who wants to visit.
Walnut tree, now that I think of it. Ive eaten a few squirrels in my day, so why feed them after my death? It only seems fair.

5. DH and I are considering donating our bodies to science. |
|
Then if our children wish, a nice bench can be donated to a park/preserve of their choice with our names on it.
I've been to a few parks with benches given in memoriam..I always thought it was a nice way to remember someone.
