Extremely loud bolt of lightening woke me up at @ 3:30 AM!
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 05:34 AM by Breeze54

Scared the shit out of me!! :scared:

I was sound asleep but it made me sit straight up in bed when that bolt hit
and there were loud and extremely bright flashes lighting up my room.

I thought the house had been hit by lightening and there were more flashes and very loud thunder!
I got up to look out the window and then went into the hall to check the other side of house and
my son had also been woken up. Takes a lot to wake him up! :) Then I couldn't get back to sleep. ;(
I went downstairs to make coffee and there was water all over the floor under my backdoor window.
The rain must have been pretty hard to creep through the window!

Looks like we're in for more of the same this morning and later on today...

Tonight: Thunderstorms, especially during the evening.
Low 63F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
Tomorrow:
Partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms. A few storms may be severe.
High 88F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

1. I've had that experience...
but I didn't sit straight up- I rolled and fell off the bed crashing on the floor. My boyfriend woke up laughing :(

I wish it would stop raining here in Dallas. Even when the forcast calls for 30%-40% chance we get flood warnings. GRRR! We're forcasted for rain through Saturday- It just doesn't stop! But good thing is that with all this rain our temps have stayed in the mid to upper 80's with a few low 90's every so often. For mid-July, that's low seeing as how we should be touching 100.

You poor thing! Glad the temps have been cooler for you though.
That front (?) off the Gulf Coast just won't move, will it?!

That event last night really scared me. I was looking for a fire outside.
I didn't see anything although the fire station started sounding the alarm
a few minutes later. There were three horn blasts and then two and then it
was repeated. We have some volunteer firemen here and that's how they alert
them, so I'm guessing someone's house or a tree got hit somewhere near here.

4. With all this gulf moisture, I'm surprised we haven't
had a hurricane yet. Maybe the waters aren't warm enough yet, but it does propose some scary prospects. Looked out my window this afternoon about 1pm and saw a beautiful sunny sky and thought "wow, what a great day to go to the pool!" I lay out for about an hour and then "BOOOOM!" Thunder :( 30 min later the skies were dark and the rain had arrived.

Our firemen don't usually blast their horns in a residential neighborhood unless traffic is bad. Though we don't live near a station either, that would get on my nerves very quickly.

relatively close to the station, so I can hear it. The sound system is on top of the fire station.
It doesn't wake me up but it is a little nerve wracking. The horn blasts are usually followed by
sirens but I didn't hear any this morning. I guess that's good. Maybe they were just alerting them
because that storm was so severe last night. A couple of weeks ago, a house here got hit by
lightening and it burned to the ground.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and it was just swelteringly hot. I barely got all the
groceries in the house, and I had left the car windows open when it suddenly got very breezy
and I went back downstairs and right then, it started to downpour! I ran out to close the car
windows and I was soaking wet in less than a minute!
