1. if you want one, don't cheap out.

most of the consumer power washers sold at home depot, lowes, etc will only last you a 5-10 uses. look for one with a good pump and a thermal release valve that relieves pressure from an overheated pump.

I once bought an electric one from home depot that didn't even make it through the day before the pump pressure was shot.

I now have a Excell power washer with a 6hp briggs and stratton motor, a $300+ home depot purchase. I ended up replacing the pump for about another $250 after less than 10 uses.

3. If you do want to go cheap, check out Harbor Freight
I bought a cheap one there and have been using it all summer. I bought there cheapest one and if I had known how much I would be using it probably would have spent a little more.

4. I bought my husband a Karcher for Christmas, and he loves it!
It is just right for home use. I got it as a Today's Special Value on QVC two years ago. I think I paid $120 or so.

I have seen them at Target and Wal-Mart for about that price.

Happy washing!

5. My suggestion would be to not to...
Rent one, unless you think you're going to be using it on a regular basis.

But then again, if you've got the funds earmarked for it and a place to store it... why not own another toy?

6. I agree. My husband is a contractor, and
he doesn't own a power washer because he wouldn't use one often enough to justify purchase. It's much less expensive to rent a quality washer when it's needed.
