OMG I just learned of the existence of deep fried TWINKIES!!
Believe it or not they had a little article in the Health section of the L.A. Times today talking about making food "lighter and healthier" and the example they used was a fair in Indiana switching to transfat-free oil to FRY TWINKIES IN!

I HONESTLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF FRIED TWINKIES!!! The concept is really gross, at the same time, intriguing.

25. It's not really the Fair until you've eaten something on a stick.
Personally, I go for the good old-fashioned breakfast of a genuine Pronto Pup and some Tom Thumb donuts.

:D

29. Hell yeah!
I grew up in the same neighborhood as the people who owned Tom Thumb Donuts. They literally only worked 12 days a year, at the state fair, but that 12 days brought in enough to live on for the entire year.

4. They had them at the NJ State Fair - which was next door to Live Earth
The fair was closed for everyone but the Live Earth attendees. There was a stand that was selling them there

19. NOOOOO!
The correct summer junk candy is FROZEN SNICKERS & MILKSHAKE BARS! Freeze them solid and by the time you get to the beach they're half melty/half icey.....

That's the So.CA way anyhow!

by deep-frying them!

10. NOt all that much different than a funnel cake.
The batter is similar.

Only difference is that I can get fruit topping on my funnel cake. Blueberry is quite yummy.

17. Or make me vomit.
Last time I had one it was too greasy and I puked while on the ferris wheel.

No more fried twinkies for me, though my daughter will want one if she sees this. (And she'll want to wash it down with a nasty little bubble tea.)

15. I've had one.
Half of one, actually, we split one.

I can't stand twinkies but something happens to them when they are fried - the sugar caramelizes and they are soft like a flan on the inside, and crisp and, well, caramelly on the outside. You'd never know it was a twinkie.

31. I had my very first one last summer at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
We live in SC and I'd never gotten around to checking them out.

Like you said, the concept is "gross, but intriguing".

I had to try one and although it wasn't absolutely disgusting, I doubt I'll ever have another one.

Not exactly lo-cal, if ya know what I mean! :hi:
