10. I like Springfield.
I had cousins there while growing up. I spent one whole summer and lots of weekends and vacations there. We had great times--State Fair, being rowdy in the capitol gallery (my uncle was a lobbyist, and liked us to see government at work), hiking at New Salem. I had great times there. I wouldn't mind living there at all. Good sized, all the amenities without the Chicago traffic (or governor). A great place.

12. To each their own and obviously some
100 thousand others agree with you (including my siblings and mom). I moved to St Louis 20 years ago this month and love St Louis, except for the Cardinals of course.

Being Jewish is much easier in St Louis than it was in Springfield. There aren't any kosher restaurants here but at least in parts of St Louis they've heard of Jews.

I am softening on my attitude toward Springfield IL though. If my sister would really consider kicking out her deadbeat husband I'd consider moving back and getting a job and helping her split expenses.

15. Wow! Small world! One of my cousins in Springfield
converted to Judaism. Loved the Jewish community there. Left for grad school, but he and his wife went back often. He died of testicular cancer, and is buried in the Jewish section of Oak Ridge Cemetery. I just visited his grave today.

17. So does Kentucky
Kentucky was even mentioned in an episode as the possible origin. Further strengthening the Kentucky argument is Cletus and Brandeen are obviously Kentucky natives.

5. I say Springfield, Oregon.
Does that that mean Eugene = Shelbyville.

There's also a lot of Portland in Springfield. And also I think St. Helens, and Kelso/Longview.

so it has to be MA.
