Woman Leaves 11 Month Old In Hot Car For Over An Hour - Blames Great Sale At Store
<snip>

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A 63-year-old woman is blaming a great sale for the reason she left her small child locked inside a sweltering car for an hour.

Eileen Amy Politano, of North Fort Myers, was charged with felony child neglect Friday after leaving an 11-month-old girl in a car while she went into a grocery store.

Store employees saw the girl crying in the car and were able to rescue her before police arrived. Outside temperatures were upward of 85 degrees.

Politano told police she intended to run into the store for a few minutes to buy some meat for dinner, but said there were too many specials to pass up.

When medical personnel asked Politano to give the child something to drink, she reportedly reached into her car and grabbed a bottle of spoiled formula.

2. 63 years old and she has an 11-month-old daughter???
Is this an adoption story or a medical miracle story?

5. She's the legal guardian, not the "mom" so to speak

6. Oh, I had figured that. But the original link has no mention of this,
and it just seemed odd that they were tossing around "63-year-old" and "her 11-month-old-child" so casually. And my mom's folks lived in Ft. Myers for 40 years, and it IS kinda wacky, so you never know.

27. It refers to her as "great aunt" in a couple places in the article
So she was possibily the mother of the baby's aunt and evidently the legal guardian.

13. Precisely my question. Do these store managers not realize that
irresponsibly offering 'great deals' can endanger the children!?

:silly:

23. Let's be nice...I'm from Virginia
Virginia is the only state where radar detectors are illegal.

Virginia has elected a Democratic Governor for 2 straight elections for the first time as long as I can remember.

The voters of Virginia got Webb a Senate which directly led to a Democratic majority in the Senate.

But then again...
Virginia has counties and cities as separate entities

Fast food restaurants in the immediate DC suburbs charge an "eat-in" tax if you eat your meal there. What's up with that?

The developers have free rein (or is it reign?) to do whatever they want without adding roads...which causes instant gridlock

31. Oh no...anything but Maryland!
It's illegal to purchase fireworks in MD. The only things you can legally buy/use are snakes and sparklers.

A MD member of Congress (Roscoe Bartlett) is the one responsible for porno magazines not being sold on military bases. He quietly added it as pork into the annual Defense Department budget. All the other things in the budget were successfully compromised between the 2 political parties. President Clinton wouldn't veto such an important bill just because of the porno magazine ban, it would be viewed as he's saying porno magazines are more important than the Defense budget.

On the good side...

MD votes for the Democratic candidate in each Presidential election for as long as I can remember (with the exception of 1984).

I never get tired of Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

The geography is very diverse. The beaches of Ocean City to the mountains at the western edge.

25. This Is Why I Am for Safe, Legal Abortion
There are way too many people on this planet unprepared to be parents, and there's no way that we can literally save every child from this kind of abuse and neglect. This kind of thing probably happens all of the time. It's just that no one is around to catch it.

I honestly do believe that it's more humane in some instances for a woman to get an abortion than it is to bring an unwanted, neglected, and abused child into the world.

28. We don't know the story as to why the baby's biological mother couldn't care for the baby
I think that it is a little presumptious though to assume that the baby's biological mother would have had an abortion if it had been free. For all we know, the baby's biological mother died.
