Lame cell phone question. |
|
My kid got a cell phone for her birthday a few days ago. One of those pre paid from a family friend. Suddenly the panel reads SIM Card Rejected.
The Nokia help desk said to call our "provider". It's pre-paid so who would be the provider....the phone company in our area? Why would the SIM card suddenly not work? We took it out and put it back in and the games seem to work okay.

1. Lame cell phone answer |

The provider is whatever company gives you service, like Sprint, Verizon, etc. Nokia just makes the phone.

The family friend is the provider. :)

Hey, I had no clue either. It's the little flat gizmo that has wires and stuff inside that you stick in the little cell phone.
Dang it....why do we have all this technology!!!

Fortunately for me, my cell phone came with that already inside, hooked up and working (I suppose it does have one...)
Technology exists to make our lives easier :eyes:
Good luck with getting that problem resolved. :hi:

6. Seriously though, it doesn't always make life easier. |
|
More crammed full of stuff to do and buy. I remember as a child when the adults talked about how computers were going to eliminate the use of paper. I don't relish the days of carbon paper that's for sure though, and the Xerox machine was a great invention. The person who got her the phone took it out of the box and rigged it all up. AT&T told me the provider's name was on the box which we don't have. So now we have to get the box. Some people try to be nice so I can't yell at him for it.

but that's what 'they' always say about new technology.
So I was rigth, the family friend is the provider you have to go to to find out why the SIM card (which I find out down-thread I don't have one of) got rejected.
Dang, I so smart I amaze even my own self.
I hope the person kept the box...

I couldn't answer your question, I'm happy to have kicked your thread enough times for someone who *could* help you to come along and offer good advice.

It's basically a computer chip with an ID on it, that the network uses to figure out who the phone is.

8. Everyone carrier uses SIM cards except Verizon Wireless. |
|
All the phone models made for AT&T wireless/Cingular, T-Mobile, and Sprint/Nextel will use SIM cards.
All the phone models made for Verizon Wireless will not use SIM cards.

7. The SIM card is the card inside the phone that has your |
|
phone number encoded on it and makes the phone work. It could simply be that the card is not securely in the phone. Taking it out and putting it back in might solve the problem. It's usually located under the battery.
It is possible that the SIM card really has gone bad. It occassionally happens. If you know which carrier actually carries the phone calls (Sprint, AT&T wireless, T-Mobile) you can take the phone to their store and have them move your number to a new SIM card.
