1. Good work-you are mostly through the worst of it |
|
What are you using? Hypnosis? The patch? gum?
I used the patch. AFter the first 3 days you are pretty much past the worst of the withdrawals. Now you just have to deal with the physical thing (your hands) and get to 10 days. Get there and just keep telling yourself "don't give up those days"
Great work. It isn't easy and you should be proud of yourself for even trying. You will soon learn to get out of your own head-the expectation of the pain of withdrawal is way worse than the actual withdrawal which does SUCK to high heaven. Imagine that in 6 months you will look back and laugh about how that stupid silly thing used to completely RULE your life (and it did).

The main thing that gets me to wanting is habitual stuff. Like when I wake, when I sip coffee, after meals, etc.
Oh lol.. just seeing an ashtray or cigarette lighter does it too.
I do see it happening this time.

5. Yeah coffee and eating |

I don't know if you meant the nicotine gum but if you just want something to chew I can not recommend strongly enough Orbit. It lasts a good long while- it IS bubblegum-and you can mix the flavors (Orange and Lime are fantastic), the new raspberry is great in and of itself.

I got tired of experimenting on ways to stop and actually asked doc at an appt.
I'm following his suggestion step by step.
I'm not much of a gum chewer. I'm getting used to it though.

I think you're doing great! And I promise you, you will never regret this.

8. Well- I'm on the Nic-gum |
|
To beat that part.
I tried it the other way several times and the mental part is what whipped my butt. Hopefully that will be easier this way by giving me opportunity to break the habits.

10. Been a couple days smoke free with me as well! |
|
I took Chantix last time I tried to quit but it gave me some nasty stomach probs so I quit taking it. I'm doing it cold turkey this time and my biggest problem is people smoking in front of me. How are you handling that one? I took a couple of my moms smokes last night because I couldnt take her chimney anymore :p

He actually "tried" not to smoke in front of me. I could smell him lighting one upstairs on the other side of the house though. Totally sucked.
Good luck with the cold turkey. I didn't do so well with it, but I hope you knock it out of the park!

Quitting smoking is quite an accomplishment!
I quit back in October after 25 years of smoking.

I'm at 30 years. Gah! never really thought of that lately. It took a while for me to go from 2+ packs a day to 1 pack a day a few months ago.
Yup, this is a pretty large step. Thanks again!
