Fake Police Officer Arrested After Trying To Pull Over Real Police Officer

BOHEMIA, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island man is under arrest for impersonating an officer.

Suffolk County police say 25-year-old Robert Lane, (pictured) of Levittown, tried to make a traffic stop on Sunrise Highway.

The driver Lane allegedly tried to pull over turned out to be an off-duty New York City police detective.

Investigators say Lane told them he tried to stop the car because the driver had cut him off.

Police say Lane activated the flashing lights on his Jeep Cherokee, pulled alongside the off-duty detective's car, showed a mini-police badge and identified himself as a police officer.

The off-duty detective became suspicious, showed Lane his police badge and told him to pull over.

Lane refused and the undercover detective followed him and called 911.
