2. Now I'm all homesick for Texas.
Bluebonnets do that to me, as does the passing of Ladybird.

7. I'm a Texan-by-marriage.
Miz t. was born in Orange.
They don't even check my passport when we cross the border from Louisiana any more.

15. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center does some serious environmental work.
And has information on wildflowers & native plants throughout the USA & Canada. Not just Texas.

Of course, it also has lots of pretty pictures. Here's my current wallpaper: www.wildflower.org/gallery/result.php?id_image=16664

8. I was just down at the LBJ ranch
and Wildseed Farms not three weeks ago. Beautiful down there plus most Texas Highways are covered in flowers because of what she started I think.

things to do before I die
is to walk in a field like this....

12. her death makes me sad.
The legacy of LBJ- sure hated him at the time..viet nam mainly.
But his social agenda-war on poverty, medicare, voters rights-
Most progressive president that I remember being a bit over 50...Clinton always WAY
to conservative for me. She was a great 1st lady, much much better than Barbara "the mean"
Bush and Nancy----that, that-I will just stop.

16. Because of Vietnam, it's hard to remember....
that if it were not for LBJ's determination, deal-making, and arm-twisting (particularly of Southerners in government at the time) the Civil Rights act might not have passed. Being a Southerner himself, he knew how to work those old Southern boys in a way Kennedy, had he lived, did not. For that he deserves to be remembered well.

17. Thank you, Shakespeare
The other blessing of the wildflowers is how they mean to the wild critters. Just today we were watching the hummingbirds sip from the bee balm and the gold finches harvesting the cone flowers.

And thank you, Lady Bird.

21. Nothing lowly about them
Dandelions are one of the first nectar and pollen bearing flowers to bloom in the spring. For honey bees in the northern regions they're a salvation and feast.

23. Thanks, wildhorses
I did post my defense of dandelions. I also think of them as gold coins scattered across green velvet, a gift of spring.
