I miss breastfeeding.
I was looking through old pictures and I found one of me feeding Jack, and got all gushy.
We nursed for a little over a year, and some of my best memories of that year are centered around feeding him.
The soft, warm, chubby cheek pressed up against me.
The content, relaxed look on his face.
The way he'd dribble out of the corner of his mouth when he fell asleep feeding.
I won't get to do any of that again, but I'm so glad I did.
:loveya:

Also, the nursing boobs were swell. Pun intended.
:D

1. Me too.
My floor at work is usually mostly gyn surgical patients, but the regular postpartum floor was full (BTW, what was in the water last October as babies are coming like crazy?), so we got a ton of moms and babies. I got to do lots of teaching on breastfeeding and was happy and a little sad all at once. My baby just turned six. I know how you feel.

3. It was nice to be liberated from milk production,
but man...
it's one of those phases that goes by so fast...

5. I remember when my milk came in with my first.
I stood in front of the mirror trying on different shirts.
I was amazed. I went to bed and woke up at least a cup size and a half bigger.
I kept making my husband feel them. He was less impressed than I was!

4. I hear you!
It's been a very long time for me...

My baby turned 35 this year...

We nursed till she was 22 months old...the last 6 months were once a day at naptime...

There is nothing like watching your child's eyes roll up as she falls asleep at your breast...

She hung off my lap....

It was amazing...

And now she's expecting her second son in November, and she will once again breastfeed...

*sigh*

7. I even miss the smell of milk!
It was such a sweet experience. I always get a little pang when I see mommies nursing their babies.

10. Those sleepless nights can seem endless
but it really does pass by so fast. That sweet little face and those big eyes that look up at you like you're the entire universe. My "baby" is fixing to turn 7. I have a picture of him nursing on his 1st birthday. Those memories are precious.

12. Being able to nurse in bed was NICE!
It made tending to a baby at night more tolerable.

19. I agree.
My doctor who delivered her yelled at me about it. He was writing up notes and when I told him I kept her in bed to feed he turned sharply on his heel and marched over to me and said to get her out and put her in a crib. Did I listen? HELL NO! My baby grew up to be a wonderful well-adjusted child and I never let her "cry it out" in a dark damn room. Hogwash to all that. Hells bells, for thousands of years mother's have tucked their babes close to them in bed and now these male doctors think they know what's best for the mother and child.

13. I was gonna say something smartass.
Like "Locking-no boobie threads."
Or "As long as you don't do it at the Olive Garden."
But I can't.

(OK, I did, but not in the subject line.)

I am reminded of when Miz t. was breastfeeding our daughter.
We were visiting her parents in Texas.
Miz t.'s dad was a kinda rough ol' Cajun feller.
A carpenter.
Not exactly a warm & tender guy.

Miz t' was feeding our daughter back in our bedroom when her dad knocked on the doorjamb.
"Can I come in?"
"Sure, dad. Come on in."
"Is that workin' OK for ya?"
"Yeah, thanks. Just fine."
"Yore mom never did that. I think it's kinda nice."
And he just sat there and they talked for a while.

She was one of six and a middle kid.
She said she felt closer to her dad then than she ever had before.
Anybody got a hankie?
;-)

24. Oh my! I need a hankie now too!
Thanks for sharing! I too breast fed my son. Was great, I agree with all the women who have posted here. I loved being able to pop him in bed with me and feed him and then snuggle him and go back to sleep...I can't believe it will be 22 years in October! Wow, I am OLD! LOL!!!

20. I don't.
I enjoyed it, it was a good experience, and faced with new babies, I'd do it again. But I nursed from late 1999 to early 2003, and eighteen months of that time, I tandem nursed.

It was good, but I don't miss it.

25. That's what I keep telling myself.
Sometimes I think I made a mistake, not having another one within a couple of years of Brendan. But we just couldn't afford it, ya know? It'll happen eventually. I have faith.
