17 people ill after Chicago food fest
CHICAGO - Seventeen people who ate from the same booth at the Taste of Chicago food festival last week became ill, at least five of them with salmonella poisoning and three who were hospitalized, the health department said.

The Chicago Department of Health was investigating the cases and confirmed on Wednesday that five were caused by salmonella bacteria.

The 17 people all ate at the Pars Cove Persian Cuisine booth, which served cucumber salad over hummus, grilled lamb and beef, pomegranate barbecued chicken and baklava.

1. It was also tragic when the Chicago tunnel collapsed, killing that woman.
Oh, wait....

5. I never once suggested that I might like the Cubs.
Or any other Chicago sports team, for that matter.

It's just a damn fine city. ;)

2. I hate "Taste".
You can walk a few blocks and find better food at a cheaper price, and not have to walk sideways through thousands of idiots just to find a place on the curb next to a dumpster to scarf down a sandwich. Plus, all those asshole vendors price their food in such a way that you're always left with an extra food ticket, so you either have to give it away or buy some more.

3. I've never been to "Taste"

Never. I have zero interest in going and eating overpriced food, on some of the hottest days of the year, with thousands of people in a small area.

9. Don't bother.
Aside from listening to few interesting bands for free, it's a real clusterfuck of a hassle. It more of a draw for the touristas than it is for people who actually live/work here. I'd prefer to grab an Italian beef (w/ hot peppers, of course) at Brian's on Lake & Michigan, and listen to free music at the Washington Cultural Center weekdays at noon.

13. Taste of Minnesota is a pain also.
I used to love it, but then it got waaaay too expensive, way too crowded, and just not worth it.

15. That's what I thought.
I think it is for the touristas more than anything.

Hell, if I want to go someplace with a zillion people, with food and drink and bands, I'll go to North Halsted Marketdays (August 11 - 12). That's always fun. Much more fun than Taste.
