Well it's official I'm a food snob...
I'm sorry I hope I can press on without being an annoyance or curmudgeon towards others when they eat, but I can no longer eat the processed foods I loved in childhood.

The last few years I've been trying to eat a more healthful, whole foods based diet and I've done pretty well.I just had a bowl of Campbell's vegatble soup for dinner. But it just so happens I'm on my own this week and this can has been in our cupboard for a long time and there really was not much else in the house. I figured I used to like this soup as a kid and I might as well use it up.

BIG mistake...to me it tastes - well like I imagine dog food would taste (alright, alright I admit when I was a toddler I tasted a dog biscuit and I remember the taste).

I realized last year I could no longer stomach Spagettios...which was something I used to absolutely look forward to as a kid. I thought perhaps it was just that one thing or maybe even that the product had changed. Then a couple of months ago I had a ice cream sandwich - you know the standard type, flat chocolate cookie with vanilla (or something close) ice cream in the middle. LOVED Those! Now they leave a nasty after taste in my mouth. Same thing for Dunkin Donuts chocolate donuts.

My taste buds are fully into snob mode. I thought I could take a trip back to these foods now and then for fun but nope can't do it.

Ah well, just have to keep making my own soup and ice cream sandwiches (which I make with home made cookies and ice cream from a local shop)

3. tater tots aren't bad
Just fry them and salt 'em well! I like mine w/ mustard or a bbq sauce that isn't very sweet.

On the other hand you can't offer him marshmallow creme straight from the jar anymore

5. My lifelong dedication to Cheerios ended ....
after I had a nephrectomy for kidney cancer. I cannot stand the taste of a cheerio any more, kind of gives that dry heave kind of gag at the back of your throat, I'm gonna puke! feeling.

9. If it makes you feel any better, they've changed a lot of ingredients
I switched to pop made with pure cane sugar, and it tastes much more like the pop I remember growing up than the high-fructose corn syrup stuff does. More to the point, if I drink a bottle or can, it's satisfying and I don't feel the need to have another liter or so. So I don't have it as often!

13. So, let me get this straight...
There are people in the world who don't like Tater Tots and/or Cheerios? Just thinking about that gives me the kind of headache I used to get reading Hebrew.

I should stay away from the internets. :scared:

19. It always starts with something simple like canned soup.
Unfortunately, you're well on your way to being like me.

"I don't like that kind of coffee."

"I don't like that kind of beer."

"I don't like that kind of tea."

"I don't like that kind of chocolate."

"I don't like that kind of wine."

You'll be unsufferable, but your palate will be singing. :7

20. I confess I've already past the beer stage..
there are certain beers - which I will not name here for fear of flames - I CAN NOT drink anymore.

Although I may have partially skipped the coffee stage, I can taste the differences now but when I'm really in NEED I'm still able to tolerate not-so-good coffee. (although the unfinished cups of that stuff are becoming more frequent)
