WINE EXPERTS: Need some picnic wine suggestions
Okay, I'll admit it up front: I know absolutely nothing about wine.

That being the case, my friend and I are planning a picnic. And we want to fancy it up big time with a lot of cheeses and lil foods and of course: wine.

I know there must be some wine experts out there who could offer some advice on types, brands, whathaveya. Also, some food suggestions if ya got 'em to go along with it would be just great too.

Pleeeeeeeeease?

:toast:

2. Agreed. Two buck chuck is good wine...
Although it costs $3 a bottle in Chicago. Transportation costs, dontcha know?

Charles Shaw wine at Trader Joe's, in case the OP isn't familiar with it.

4. I'll give you some better budget wines than two buck chuck...
I'm not sure what cheese you'll be having, so here's an assortment of wines. These should all be available for $10 or less a bottle, btw.

Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc--they do one of the best out there.

Toad Hollow's rose (a good one that'll go with a range of cheese)

Fetzer's gewurtztraminer, a nice off-dry and very aromatic white that's surprisingly good for the price (around $7)

If you want something bold & red (good with blue/veined cheeses), Bogle's petite sirah is outstanding for around $10, and Rosenblum's vintner's cuvee (a zin blend) is great for around $8.

The rose will pair with the broadest range of food, and is a great warm weather wine.

5. Two Buck Chuck just cleaned up on a blind test (anounced on this evening news)
Charles Shaw Wine is an American brand of "extreme value" wine produced in California.

These wines are currently Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and most recently Shiraz varietals and Valdigue in the style of Beaujolais nouveau, all from California vineyards. They are distributed exclusively by Trader Joe's grocery stores, and in California sell for $1.99. Because of this, the Charles Shaw wines are affectionately known as Two Buck Chuck.

I'm embarrassed to admit I'm a winemaker and have never tasted Two Buck Chuck. Maybe I'll look into it.

Picnic are usually in the day, and I like white wine while the sun is still up, so I'd recommend my favorite white wine: Sauvignon Blanc. Any California Sauvignon Blanc will be good, so look for moderate priced ones (4-8 bucks), Fetzer, Sutter Home, Kendall Jackson, and Forestville would be safe choices.
